Classic & Sports Car. Mk1 GTI Avg £17,300

Up 13%, the biggest increase of any model since previous report in May. Although I think due to the short-ish time span and small-ish numbers of GTIs being auctioned it would only need 1 mega £ special sale to skew the figs by so much. Anyway enjoy driving your depreciation proof MK1

This is a great read as I have exactly that car to restore! Silver mk1 Campaign, untouched and original, 108k and one owner with mint sunroof and interior. But needing all other panels and rear chassis leg repair. Worth doing then lol

Looks a bit ripe that one. Final value will be the last thing on your mind once you cut this one open!!

How do you mean “ripe” mate? Will be like new when done, even have NOS genuine full rear chassis legs to fit and every panel new to go on, and thankfully can do the work myself which is a bonus

Wow mate! Read some of your ‘Original Campaign’ posts, amazing and well done indeed! You should be very proud!

I’m sure therefore, given what i’ve just read, that you will undoubtedly share an equal excitement in my future project!

Saving yet another rare and beautiful classic Campaign from a deathly destiny, despite it’s apparent ‘ripeness’ should be welcomed, supported and embraced by the Mk1 community!

Thanks for your comment my friend and together we can hopefully help save more of these fantastic classics moving forward! ;-)

Rich.

Ah thank you Rich, glad to see some positivity! I’m not so bad for a psychiatrist and saves paying someone else lol!!

… indeed, your compliments are very welcome, thank you, as your Golf is amongst the best i’ve seen!!

Your talent in engineering and fabrication leaves many fabricators i’m sure in awe of your work. And to think that you’re not in the motor trade either … we’re doing ok lol ;-)

It wasnt a dig at your car so sorry if I offended you. Maybe more of a reality check but looking at your photos again I stand by my original comment. - I don't see many campaigns with that many holes! Did it live by the sea?

Having restored a few mk1's over the years and being a realist I understand that we dont take these projects on to make money, maybe I misunderstood but your post came across like you were going to be quids in once it was done plus posting many photos of it on a thread related to values maybe added to my misunderstanding  but I guess it was a tongue in cheek comment.

Restore to your hearts content. Sounds like you know what you're doing.  Goodluck with it and get a thread up on here so we can see the progress :thumbs:FYI my latest project here: https://vwgolfmk1.org.uk/forum/index.php?page=topicview&id=projects%2Fyour-mk1-golfs_2%2F1977-gti-uhx125s

Its always open to honest comments……

Thank you for your explanation and apology, all of which are of course accepted.

Kind and supportive words cost nothing but serve to encourage others (like myself) to restore and save these great classics we all love so much!

Although I agree that my Campaign is indeed well ventilated with scattered holes; I personally prefer to see them like this, untouched and aged; an honest blank canvas and not an ambiguous white elephant covered in filler with an army of owners and notched up miles from here to the moon and back.

I’ve looked for an honest example for a few years now but all have been through the mill or suffered at the hands of a butcher with some of the worst welding and repairs I’ve seen! So when this car came up, untouched, 1 owner and low miles … and silver, it floated my boat as I proposed to my wife in a silver Campaign that I had many years ago! So sentiment as well as passion driven!!

The car actually looks worse than it actually is. For me, the crucial areas that had to be right on the car was the roof, sunroof and lining, all of which are very very good with minimal surface rust and works as it should. Other areas that had to be right were chassis legs, inner wings, A pillars, gutters and windscreen panel which are all rust free. Front chassis legs are like new but both rears have rust and some rot. Fortunately I have very rare new full VAG rear chassis legs so both will be fully replaced. I also have both o/s and n/s new half quarter panels as well as genuine new full front snd rear panels for the car. I also have virtually as new doors and brand new genuine front wings and bonnet for the car. Floors are very very good, surprisingly no welding done or required and I have a pair of very good and genuine sills too. Glass is all as it should be too and genuine, with reg etching for security. P slots need a refurb but are correct with the correct embossed centres too. Inside is pretty unmarked with like new carpets, door cards, parcel shelves and unworn seats!

So, although I’m not in the motor industry, or qualified in any trade, I can handle a mig and a spot weld drill and i’m not so bad with a spray gun either thank God!

Also have a low mile/owner lhasa green tin top to restore as well as a couple of mk1 Caddy’s; one, a 4 speed petrol daily driver that is one owner from new, fsh and 54,000 genuine mikes and completely original!

Time is also on my side as i’m in no hurry, having retired early from the psychiatric profession last year! Safe to say, I like to be busy and i’m certainly going to be for sure haha!

I’ll most certainly start a build thread when the time’s right and documented my recent Caddy 2k build on Caddy2k.forum and on instagram @caddyr36 … a pure grey Caddy van with a 3.6 litre V6 lump from the R36 Passat, has dsg and also full Haldex 4 motion, drives more like an RS 3 than a van but great fun!

Yomp some fab mk1’s you have and I look forward to some bedside reading of your builds! Are you in the trade and do you do all your own work too mate? Name is Hef, yours??
