Its really hard to tell from a video but it looks like either its an aftermarket (ie Weber) carb on the manifold, but its missing an adaptor; or the mounting point has been removed or broken off the top of the inlet manifold.

Once you've found what's missing, it should be a reasonably easy fix.

Thanks Pal, Now i'm confused.

Take a look athe pictures attached, the new plate seems to have some of the correct fixings but the carb doesnt seem to fit on that plate, and appartently that plate is correct for the car.

I'm hopefull one of our experts will come along with an answer IMG_20190928_120501.jpg Untitled1.jpg

I believe manual and auto have a different inlet manifold with a different fitting for the carb. Did you look at an auto on the forum pic you compared yours to?

thats an aftermarket fit weber carb, it should have an adaptor plate fitted between the carb and the factory 2e2 rubber gasket on your inlet manifold. split the carb, adaptor plate and rubber flange apart and you'll probably find the rubber flange is split, replace this.

Once sorted use a standard carb airbox then make sure the metal steady bracket and rubber bobin mount are fitted at the front of the factory airbox which steadys it to the front of the head. if missing the carb will flop about and split your new rubber flange

Weber carbs were never standard on Mk1 Golf but are a popular conversion, mainly because many companies offer the kit (including the relevant adapter plate, air filter adapter, throttle and choke cable brackets etc). On an auto the throttle cable goes from pedal to transmission, then a second cable goes from transmission to carb - but the number you quoted is the right kit. The image is a generic image though, beware that the brackets will be specific for manual/auto etc.

are you sure the cable tie is to hold the carb on, or is it just to hold the airbox to the carb. if so, all thats missign is the correct kit of parts to mount the airbox properly.

what it should have is a circular adaptor bolted to the top of the carb so the airbox sits snug, then there is a Z shaped bracket which bolts to the carb (can see it in pic above) with a odd shaped bolt which goes thru the round hole in the top of the airbox into the bracket.

at the front of the airbox you should have a rubber bobbin mount, which sits in a bracket which is then bolted to the top of the rocker cover to hold it all steady

Hi pal

Ive already completed the plate change,
Its a little fiddly but its nice and tight now, another job ticked off, i decided to clean the manifold whilst in that area, i also took the rocker cover off and the cambelt cover, ive rubbed them down and sprayed them, they look great now.

when ive fitted them i will upload some pics
