have they skyrocketed - or am I out of touch?

- the answer to both questions could of course, be 'yes'….

Out and about, I came across this 'F' plate 1988 Clipper (105k approx) on an Edinburgh forecourt. Requires new hood (vinyl cracked in usual places) and in dire need of an extensive and thorough valet  - but oh my, the asking price was a shock! :oFrom the first (top of the page), scroll down 12 cars: there's only one picture and little detail, but wow… that seems a hefty price tag.

That's a typical dealer trying their luck ! .

That said cabriolets have started to rise now as certain tin tops fetch such a premium they are out of people's budgets

I sold my sportline in 2015 for £7500 and that was on a £1000 set of BBS and was good money then but it was fairly low on the owners and mileage front

Early more retro small bumper cabbies are starting to come more desirable so I expect to see an increase in price on them soon

IMO cabby markets sits here at mo:

But again it's all about what someone is willing to pay

Car with MOT but needs work £1000+

Small engine cab's / auto - £1500+

Useable daily but may still need a roof etc , gti or 1.8 carb £2000+

Clean car has some restoration / work £3000-£5000

Clean sportline / rivage / something special £5000-£8500

Firstly Cabrio prices are on the rise across Europe for sure but they are not keeping pace with the GTI tintops.

The dealer doesn't tell us to much and from those pictures we can't really see to much either.
But in my opinion as an ex dealer this one is taking a flyer on this price, he's going fishing.

Spring is coming even in Scotland!

He's either got an absolute bundle of money in it or he bought it wrong, it does happen.
Having spent no more than five minutes looking at it and thinking about spring prices for Cabrios I see this one at no more than 5k on the screen and then having to deal on that.

I can, not that I have to justify my reasoning by saying if he had to shift that lump of metal for cash in hand to another trader/dealer today he's only going to see the maximum of 3.5k to 4K , if he's lucky!

Whatever he paid for it you can be sure at that price he's sitting on close to 2k profit after Prep costs.

Just my thoughts and something to think about.

Hey fellas. Thanks for getting in touch. I agree with all that you said re. values.

Laughed heartily at Golf Cabrio's comment about Spring in Scotland: yep, daffs just out!

Re. the white Clipper at Labinjoh: the dealer seemed a straight guy. He said it was on the forecourt as a commission sale on behalf of a vendor who used them for servicing and repair and had bought several cars from them through the years. When I expressed my astonishment at the asking price he smiled and said the vendor was open to offers (ha, ha, ha!)

I've never seen a clipper at that price - but I wanted to put it out there for you guys, if only for the entertainment value.

If you fancy it, you need to be talking with the Organ Grinder and not the monkey!  ;)

Dealer is on upwards of 20%.  O_o
