That is the old Motorola type of Alternator, it is most likely a voltage regulator issue.

What do Divorces, Great Coffee, and Car Electrics all have in common?

They all start with GOOD Grounds.

Where are my DIY Links?

Might be easier to get a new alternator and a 65 amp from a Cabriolet and convert it over from the motorola, they tend to be easier to get parts for as the motorola one is a special order from VWHeritage, although a good electric rebuilder may have one.

As it states

* This is a Special Order item. We will order it for you immediately, but it may take up to six weeks to arrive, unless it is a TMI part, which may take up to 12 weeks to arrive.

Easier to convert it over actually or go to a Local rebuilder and see if they have it on hand.

i can see a sticker at the front, looks blue? might be hella brand, they're often supplied aftermarket.

1st thign take the reg off, and check it. there are 2 electrical contact points which need to be clean. if the brushes look obviously damaged or too short, then replace.

take it into local GSF or euro, see if they have one on the shelf that fits.

ok so its a hella alternator, but its been re-manufactured so it might not have been done by hella if that makes sense?

so anyway. brush pack looks ok, are the grooves in the alternator deep? if not then that side should be ok./ take your brush pack into local motorfactors and see if they have any which match
