Early GTI badge?

Hi, I purchased this GTI badge approx 20 years ago and the seller described it as an early GTI series 1 front grill badge pre the straight font GTI badge that we all know and love.

I do know the earliest 76/77? GTIs did have a couple of different style grill badges but not sure if this is one of these early prototype badges? Be good to tap into the expertise on the forum….
