Purchased the engine already built from a friend
It has a bored bottom end 2.1
Pistons
Cam
A lot of head work
Golf 16v inlet

It really does go up in the revs quick

It run 12.6 at Santa pod in 2013
On same set up

Im confused, what is a 9a from and whats the difference between it and an ABF?

Surely as a 16v lump having a 16v inlet is standard?

Current rides:

2003 BMW 330d Manual Saloon Msport
1985 GTI cabriolet black edition (42k miles)
1999 Triumph Daytona 955i Post apocalyptic, rat, brat, scrambler, steam punk, cafe racer

One is a short block one is a tall block
It’s from corrado 16v
2.0 9a
Reason I think is that the manifold sits nicer in the bulk head when using the the 1.8 16v inlet

I might stand corrected but from what I’ve researched I think that’s correct

yes the abf is tall block from B4 passat, mk3 golf and various SEAT.  9a is corrado and passat b3 plus same basic block used in various audi, same height as kr.

both fit fine in a mk1, the trouble is the conversion manifolds you find are mostly all for kr so when used with abf they dont fit so well. plus most these days dont mention that they are for LHD models and hit the steering, but thats a different story

Believe the 9a has a poor conrod length, makes for high piston speeds, hence why vw lengthened the block/conrod length on the abf, just something ive read..

That right
I believe I’m running hand made pistons for that very reason

After all my talk about my great engine
Today it decided it don’t want to start
Fuel ran out whilst warming it up so put 10 litres in and now won’t start

Was so looking forward to an evening drive
