1983 Stereo Problems??

I've got a 1983 Golf and the stereo is not working?

The lights come on when I turn the dial and you can tune it but it just doesn't pick anything up and there isn't any sound at all, not even the fuzzy sound when its tuning I haven't looked into it fully yet but it looks like the whole dashboard out to get to the wiring?

Any advice or tips would be much appreciated!
