Time for a service - Part suggestions wanted pls?

Post

Evening all,
Have got a couple of days off during "kiddy week" (half term) so will take the opportunity to service the car (91 plate Clipper), can I ask suggestions on parts please e.g. oil filter, plugs, oil etc, does it really matter what brand I go for, currently looking at carparts4less as they seem good value?

All suggestions welcome, thanks in advance.

www.vwspares.co.uk are good for service items. carparts4less are EuroCarParts - they sometimes struggle to tell the difference between a mk1 cabby and a mk2, which means you get the wrong parts!

2000 Mk4 Cabriolet Avantgarde (bought for the mrs)

I buy Quantum Synta oil which is perfect, £20ish for 5l, original VW oil filter from eBay for less than a tenner and put a sports air filter on so it does not need changed.

Thanks for all the replies, a bit more info for my car: -

1/ 122,000 miles
2/ Been standing for a wee while (hence the service)
3/ Won't be used over the winter (call me a wuss)

PS is 10w40 Semi-Synthetic oil best to use?

Thanks again.

Timing belt and tensioner depending on when it was last done and brake fluid. Mineral oil is also fine on these engines its what was originally specified and sometimes cheaper.

Drain and change oil and replace oil filter - £25 job
Replace fuel filter - £5 job
Bleed brake fluid and change - fairly cheap job
Also maybe get the wheels off and check the brakes and pads - pads are fairly cheap too
I also try and shampoo the interior twice a year - autoglym shampoo £10

Spark plugs are fairly cheap too if they are looking a bit worse for wear and fairly easy to do

Personally i would use fully synthetic oil, renew fuel filter, air filter, Oil filter (a must with a service) Sump plug & washer - possibly sump gasket too. Also check service/receipt records for head gasket & rocker cover gasket change… Brake fluid change? gearbox oil, check brake hoses not corroded…. just a few things. Wynns also do a fuel cleaner as well for your fuel lines..  perhaps think about using high performance fuel only in ya car. like Shell Nitro…
