Strange fuelling problem

Post

struggling to get to the bottom of a strange fuelling issue

when i purchased the car, it would run fine if there was over half a tank of fuel in her, i then read it may be down to the filter in the swirl pot, so i proceeded to remove this, and clean, when i put it back in, the car wouldn't run so i assumed i had dragged some rust into the fuel system.

I took to my local garage who managed to get her running, but warned there was a LOT of rust in the fuel system.

so today i went on a mission to clean the tank, and low and behold, there was a lot of rust sediment in the swirl pot and tank, i was happy we managed to remove a very good chunk using a pump and magnet, leaving very little rust in there but still no joy…

The fuelling issue isn't a constant problem, when first started the car runs fine, then after maybe 1 min of running, it starts to splutter, eventually cutting out, then if i leave it for 2 minutes, it fires up and does the same.

Ive already placed an order for a new tank, pump and lines, and wondered if anyone had encountered something similar to this and what it may be?

the accumulator was cleaned out when the mechanic got it running.

thanks in advance

Mike
