Stainless

So I am always looking at things that will look good on the mk1 I am getting her ready for a full respray in black and I am going to use bits of chrome here and there to help set her off really nicely.

But the other day I was in a customers and they were polishing a massive stainless structure to a mirror finish and even in there factory that looked really nice then I got to thinking what if I get someone to fabricate the front and rear bumbers the brackets and front number plate mount out of 316 stainless (this stuff don't rust) and then send it all to another company to get them to polish them all up to a high mirror finish and then mount these on a high polished satin black paint job.

What do you think your opinions please

I work in a stainless meltshop, 316 is pretty mediocre but right in saying it doesn't rust.

But 316 is rather pricey for what it is. It will cost you a lot more than the cost of chromed repros.

Not helpful I know but I think without cash yup struggle to get the mirror finish you desire

If say it would definitely be worth it if you could do it all yourself as it'll be costly otherwise. Unless you can sort some good deals

unfortunatly I dont have the tools or skills to to this but I do know people that do and I am sure talking to the right ones will good deals plus I may be able to get cost prices on all the supplies which makes it even better and all said and done may be able to do it all for less than the chrome repos as well.

as they say sometimes it is not what you know but who you know

it is still an idea at the mo but a few fab shops have said bring a pic of the bumbers and they will look at them and tell me what they think, so will be starting with the one that has dine a couple of mk1s himself

They'd need rolling and and forming if think instead of fabbing.

Thinking its a good idea though, but I don't think a fab shop would be able to do a good quality/carbon copy.

If its doable, I'm sure you'd get a few asking for sure

I've thought about fabbing some bumpers at work but it's harder than it looks. Those bumpers are pressed out in one piece normally.

You can by some stainless bumpers on eBay. Seems a lot of effort to go to for one pair. Or were you planning on doing a batch?

I like the idea o f the polished stainless stuff against the black paint. It'll look classy and very slick.

You may well be able to get a fabricator to knock some stuff up for you. Do you want the bumpers to be exactly the same as stock? If not an alternative shape may well be cheaper?

Just a thought

Doing what I do I think I should be able to get them in cheaper than they are for sale on eBay.

i am not looking for an exact copy I am thinking of going for a simple clean look on them just flat with a smooth corner rather than a sharp 90degree on them have few places looking at it and working out the best design on them.

if one of them says they can do it will then look further
