Service/Repair Manuals

Good evening folks, just wondering if any cabby owners have invested in the Bentley Publishers VW Cabriolet manual that includes the early 1990 ragtops? I appreciate it was written for the US imports but I can't seem to find a British version anywhere including from Haynes. They're not cheap mind but I would splash out if it were any good, just thought I would test the water and see if anyone has any experience with them. Thanks in advance 🚘😃

The Bentleys manual has been mentioned by a few folk over the years, never used one myself - prefer the brown cover Haynes personally.

Which models does that cover Dano?

I think this is the one Dano is referring to (not my ad, I just stumbled across it):

Personally, I try and get my greasy hands on any service manual regarding Mk1's as I can (Haynes, Robert Bentley, Poor Richard's)… generally it is a waiting game looking for the best deal, but it is amazing how the manuals differ in detail from task to task.

I have seen that one on a few sites Fausto, I have a 91 Cabby so it's not my spec. I have also seen a restoration manual which is supposed to be good, you guys know anything about that?

Haynes has a version that is All Gassers from 75-93 it leaves some things to be desired and it forgot to include the 93?

I have the Chiltons (which is useful as toilet paper.)
I have the Haynes Golf/Rabbit/Jetta.Scirocco, Pickup 1975-1992 All Gassers 96016 (used semi-often)
I have the Bentley Rabbit/Scirocco 1975-1970 love the color wiring diagrams.
I have the Bentley Cabriolet/Scirocco 1985-1993
Which I have broken the binding in half, finally placed in plastic page protectors in a 6 inch binder, dogeared, tabbed, with the electrical diagrams broken off in to a separate 1 inch binder.  While I was getting ready to place it in the page protectors after cutting the pages out, I took it to work with me and Scanned all the chapters in and produced a few pdf's…. I used Adobe to assemble the thing back in to a indexed book, and separated all sections by chapter.

While I know that the Haynes can keep a car running forever (that is all I had when I bought my Diesel bunny in 80, and the Haynes didn't cover the 81,,,) It served me well, and I sold it with the car.

With that said, I use the heck out of my digital Bentley.

I know it is a USA version, but they had to do a Euro didn't they?…..

I remember fondly reading my old Factory Manuals for my Rover and Bug-eye…. "turn the screw anti-clockwise" was a real kicker for me.

ps, I bought my 1975-1979 rabbit Bentley dang near pristine condition at a rummage sale for 50 cents the cover lists the price at 18.50 for a 1979 pub date..About 6 dollars more than I paid for my Haynes at the time.

What do Divorces, Great Coffee, and Car Electrics all have in common?

They all start with GOOD Grounds.

Where are my DIY Links?

I can't find a Euro version Brian, maybe they published one but can't seem to track one down, I would like to think that the only difference between the RH drive UK import and LH drive US import would be the dash and steering/pedal system location?
