My step father came across a complete series 1 gti in blue parked up on a farm while doing a delivery the other day looks like is been stood untouched for years the farm is full of old cars and 4x4s just left gathering moss im thinking of making him an offer after ive been to have a look myself stepfather says it looks solid just a bit scabby but was wondering if the shell is same as series 2 regarding replacement panels i know the back panel is different but thinking sills, doors, ect. Any help will be appreciated.

I'm not 100% sure on all the differences (Rajan aka
dubboy
is your man ) but bonnet, I think wings, front suspension turrets are different too.
Not sure on doors or tailgate

Sounds like a good find. They never came in blue originally so its seen paint.
Unless you can take a real close look at it then be wary. The series 1's didn't have the corrosion protection the series 2's came with. You don't say if its been dry stored.
Its easy to get gripped by the romance of restoring a "barn find" but go with an open mind and be prepared to walk away if you can't get it for what you think its worth. I know a few farmers and thy're pretty unscrupulous on the whole!
Series 1 parts are rare and fetch good money if in good condition which could work against you if you want to restore it but on the flip side it might not be worth restoring but there maybe money in the parts from it.
Sounds like it won't be going anywhere any time soon so go and take some pictures of it and post them up so we can all have a nose!

Err thats Black!
The rust marks coming out the roof gutter maybe a concern but that is definitely a good find!
Also still on its original wheels so maybe unmolested.
Good luck at getting it.

Yeah but its blocked in at the moment he's not had chance to get it out yet but for £200 im not going to rush him i had a good look round it and it seems to be very solid in all the trouble places, interior is in good condition just a few rust spots on body to sort seems to be all there and never been messed with. Not sure if its a runner or not.

Can't go wrong at that!
Just don't wait too long in case someone else offers him more of an incentive to get it unblocked!
