Rubbish Chrome bump

Post

Not a happy bunny. A year or so ago I bought a set of chrome bumpers from a reputable company with the claim they were built for the British weather. I waxed them up and fitted them and in the meantime I had a few serious family issues to sort out so the golf resto was put on hold.

The car is kept off road under a large lean-to surrounded on three sides by fencing so is very well protected from the elements. It only gets the odd drip of water on the bonnet and gets a little dusty in the summer but we still clean it on a semi regular basis.

Over the last few months though the bumpers have developed a lot of rust though and it has really made me mad. The car has never been on the road but judging by the state of the bumpers it looks like it's been living in the sea!

I have now taken the bumpers off and am trying to polish them up but it looks like they will need re chroming which is expensive. Have I done something wrong to get them in this state?

The bumpers were expensive to buy and the chrome plating is terrible, defo not fit for purpose. Has anybody else had this problem?

Have you contacted the said company tom see what they say about it?

You could rant and shout in here about them when they could be understandingtowards you?

I'd be giving them politely to start with a seriously hard time.
Don't take no for an answer, it's now a game of who gives in first!  ;)

Sorry to hear this and I've no real experience of buying repro's but I hear the best are to be found in Germany.
They don't come cheap but that's of no real help either.

Good luck and keep us posted!

Theres a couple of tricks you can do to bring the shine back to the chrome, and remove rust deposits.

The first is a product called bar keepers freind- which you can buy online or in tesco/ asda any place like that really. Its quite a good product- give that a go.

The other option to clean them up, I know you think I'm crazy but it's a 2 litre bottle of coke. you can find some videos on youtube!

Hope this helps
