Quick/Fast Car Suggestions - GOT ONE!!! pic on page 3

looking for suggestions on a car 5.5-6.5k budget

Hi Guys

So at the mo as well as the golf I have my daily - a BMW 520D M Sport shown below which I love, and is ideal for covering a large patch and miles and returns me great MPG, which I need as an Area Sales Manager.

An imminent job change means I will not need an economical daily any more and half of the appeal of the change is I can get a quick / powerful car again.

The last, what I would class as great sounding quick car I had was a Alfa 156 2.5 V6 24v, and although hopeless on fuel was so much fun :-)

So here is the brief on what I am looking for:
  • Reliable (starts on the button), so maybe not a older car / classic
  • Something I can give some beans too without always needing to warm up and cool down (I am thinking a noisy Evo or Scooby might do my neighbours heads in)
  • Big enough so seat 4 adults
  • Not astronomical cost wise to maintain
  • Something that will hold its value ok, not depreciate very quickly
  • BUDGET:  5-6.5K
So far the main consideration I have been looking at so far are:

1 - Mk4 Golf R32
2 - Mk5 Golf R32
3- E46 M3 BMW

ANYONE GOT ANY OTHER SUGGESTIONS ? ? ?

Thanks

Rich

I'd have an R32 if I wasn't doing 60 miles+ a day! They're cheap as chips at the mo too.

Anna - You can get some cheap as chips but they are generally suffering from rusty tail gates and wings or been too over modified for me. I missed one by an hour last week, was only advertised for half a day! 2004, Deep Pearl Blue 5 door (quite fancy a more door), full VW SH and Miltex, with only 64k miles from memory £6500!

Swerve - S3 great car , but not a fan of the older A3's really

don't really like French, would consider something jap!

Work will be 3.2 miles away now + negotiated 2 tanks of fuel on the company fuel card per month so will be filing up with V Power!

Don't really want cabby as daily as I have the golf, but with the hardtop this is tempting , have to stretch budget though

Monaro? Not sure what the depreciation is like after the initial massive drop. Can't imagine that once they get to 5 or 6k they will go much lower as the engine is a beast and worth some in its own right

Julesgreycab - Not a bad shout, I had looked at Vectra and Insignia VXR's but not thought about the Monaro ……

Seat Leon Cupra
Ford focus st
Ford focus rs - dodgy interior
Mini Cooper S
Renault megane 225 or whatever it is
Vw Golf mk4 anni
Civic type r

I loved the Leon, the cooper S handled well and both type R's were good fun but I preferred the early one more.

R32 is cracking but u need a good one, so circa £7k, good low mile anni for £5k, there is z 35k miler for £6500 up just now but that's strong cash.

I loved my E46 M3 in carbon black with smg2 box but no wonder, it was £35k, 8 yrs ago :-)

I nearly bought a VXR as the engine is just superb but I hate vauxhalls and their dealers even more.

Insignia VXR is an unsung hero but more cruiser than rocket.

A friend has a Mazda 6 mps, mental turn of speed and quite understated but the build quality is a bit flimsy.

Good shout as my mate had the Mazda 3 mps but too much power for the chassis.

Focus ST - alot to choose from, but think R32 is nicer,
Focus RS agree not a fan of interior
Mini Cooper S - Too small for me
Megane - Heard great reports but I am not a fan of the look
Mk4 Anni - Tempting but just wonder if I would regret not getting an R32
CTR - Had a Type S for 3 years as company car so don't fancy that shape civic again

I rekon as long as im quick I should still be able to pick up a decent Mk4 R32 for £5500-£6500, wish I had not missed the link above  :(

E46 M3's - Still seem to be holding their money, I am worried a 110k + miles one might cost me some big bills ? ? …….

My choice would be R32, M3 or Cupra.

Good R32's are away as quick as they are up, M3's are expensive to run but the Seat is decent all round.

Yeah think a closer look at Seat's might be worth the look, for me they just need to look right or have the right kit on to appeal to me, test drove one with a DSG box before I bought BM, and bar a bit of a plasticy dash I liked it a lot.

Think M3 would be nice, but don't think my budget will get me a good one, or low enough miles for me not to worry too bad

Still daily checking for R32's  ;)
