Tonnueu cover for powerhood

I managed to get a mint Tonneau cover in a Tan Brown for my white cabby. I was looking for a black one, but I really like the colour so will keep. My car is a 1984 A reg that has had a Mohair Power hood fitted. I have some questions. Please refer to the pics. The fixing straps are on either side of the cover and have a press stud on them, however as you can see, I do not have the other bit of the press stud on the plastic cover on near the rear window. Is this because I have the wrong plastic covers ( perhaps for a manual hood?) I can not see any real purpose of having these fixings as the hood is pretty secure with all the other fixings. Also should there be an electrical wire connected to one of the studs to prevent the powerhood working once the cover is on? If so, which stud will it go to? I have looked at the rear plastic covers and none of them have any wire connected to the press studs.
I also have a question regarding the two straps with velcro on. Do these fix to the underside of the parcel shelf? If so would there have been the other part of the velcro fixed on the underside? I have made a new shelf with MDF, but my original shelf did not have any velcro on it. I suppose I can staple some onto my new shelf. Also any tips on storing the cover? There must be some good way of doing this as I dont want it damaging. Is it worth just folding it and putting it in a bag?
Many thanks .:)

You have an early car and a late good cover.

The later cars have the press stud to keep the hood down.
The hood you need is one with two straps that Velcro under the parcel shelf and have two bungee cords with a hook - 1 each side to clip onto the bodywork of the inside of the boot area.

Alternatively, you could get older style plastic covers with the press stud already on them.

never seen a tonneu cover that diables the system? especially as they're not supposed to work with the engine running i cant see the point in disabling the system too with the cover, why wouldn't you look to make sure the back was clear before activating the roof ? sounds like something a bmw would have LOL

also i found this confusing (probably just me):

The later cars have the press stud to keep the hood down.

Alternatively, you could get older style plastic covers with the press stud already on them.
what should he go for later or older ?

I believe the press stud you are missing is the one with the wire attached to it to disable the hood device when the cover is on. If you had the rear plastic covers from a car that had a power hood from the factory they would be there. I wouldn't worry about them as they are merely for that reason and not for holding the cover on as far as I'm aware. One of mine is broken and the cover stays on fine.

The tags do indeed go under the parcel shelf. Again mine didn't have anything to attach them to as such. I think the act of wedging them under the parcel shelf probably does enough to keep the front edge down. I too have made another parcel shelf and did indeed staple some velcro under there to help.

the ones you have are post 1990 for the power top factory set up.

So a Early one would suit better.
Do not get a pre 82 one as these don't fit later Cabbies.

everyday is a school day, love learning this shizzle, keen to go and try the power top on the missus with the tonneau on to see if it works or not, but then i have disconnected the ignition circuit so it works all the time, might have affected this saftey circuit too

Why do you have to disconnect the IGN circuit?

This will make you laugh, one of the most common things I have come across with power hoods not working is how people operate it.

It's Key in IGN Barrel, that's it no turning it to any position and deffo not with the engine running.

mine now works with the engine running….. Its an easy mod and makes life much easier. No stopping to put roof up and if the sun pops out you can drop it there and then
