Whatcha chaps,

As can be seen from my lovely Avatar at the moment Photobucket have changed their 'terms of service' apparently.

They are now asking for $399 a year to host my photo's.

Given that I have numerous build threads both here and on other forums and all my photo's now have the avatar image I probably have to pay them right?



Any suggestions?

Haha I had that this morning. 

I've since just deleted my account.

I've sent them an email asking them to explain hoe extortion and holding items for ransom can be legal.

I have build threads from ten years ago for the Derby that I have kept updated but now are completely worthless!

As computers have exploded over the years the only way I have to re-do these is piece by piece with another hosting site.

 

Rubbish isn't it…. I feel for you tbf. 


I've only just got round to finally doing build threads and this happened….. I just killed my account with them instead…. I act before I think.  

I too have been bit as of late with folks emailing me with vile and disparaging emails about me removing my photos from the bucket.  

It was a problem on their end and not mine, but didn't get resolved until I sent them a email.

Just the other day I couldn't copy and paste the links in to another one of my how to's.

Unlike most I have been using Pbucket for quite a few years and have a 50Plus account.  So when this happened over a couple of days I emailed them again.

Their reply (automated) is that they changed their  "Terms of Service" on the site.

I replied that as a long time member, that I grandfathered in to the Terms that I had joined and upgraded to, and that functionality should be restored without further ransoming.

They asked for additional data, which I gladly sent and determined that my Flash player was out of date.. but it so happened that about 2 hours after I sent the email the copy paste linking started to re-work without me updating squanto.

I too was debating moving over all my photos to a new hosting site…. then having to re-links all my how-tos.
When you have over 4000 images, and a few lengthy how to's it isn't something to do on a whim but I was over their bs.

I also contacted other sites for hosting and their generic reply was so stupid, I suspect they thought that I was a generic user with no skills and just discovered that interweb, oh that if I joined today I would get 100 free photos and 50 percent off of the next order…..

When I started to ask technical questions concerning their account,  as in Bandwith, and 3rd party linking, they disconnected from the chat with "have a nice day".  

So see, not all support folks know everything, and that I hate being held ransomed.

So for now I will stay with what I have to same me time and effort.

I don't have a problem with mine.?

Tho for the first time I have read their terms and conditions and for a free account you ate not Ment to link images. Ie past link so pictures show up in threads I presume.  I have been doing this for years oooops

hopefully it'll settle down once they have finished messign about with it. just loading an image on their site will lead you to being bombarded with eleventy billion ads which you cant block, so i think we shall see a mass user backlash if they dont sort it out!

for my images I use google images, and have a domain forwarder in palce so if it ever dies off I can easily change my forwarding service to point at the new one. handy when I moved from my last image host to google!

Oh crappo, clearly need to check this out!

If they'd just stopped new links being posted I could understand it, but not when they take over all the old ones.

There's a pretty big backlash going on at the moment so I'm hoping, probably against all odds, that they will reinstate the links and stop new ones being posted without payment.

In the meantime I need to find a new hosting site. Tried Picassa and had nothing but trouble with it. Same with Postimage.

Probably worth a look, it doesn't seem to be everyone. They do seem to have missed some accounts.

If they've missed you I'd suggest you just leave it alone, don't use the account again and use new images somewhere else and hope they forget about you!

I use no-ip.com, but there are plenty others. When you type in ' vwtech.no-ip.com' it sends you to my Google images site

Just had a quick try of Google Images, turns out I have an account and my phone was backing itself up to it!

Can't figure out the link process to get photo's to work though. Grrrrrr, I hate having to learn new things!

I'm using imgur. 

The app on iPhone is useless tho, I have to view the full site on safari, and even then copying and pasting on an iPhone is a painful process. .

why have they decided to do this now, I've had my account eight or nine years. the terms and conditions certainly didn't state then I couldn't third party host.
Maybe if you've got a new account and there are new rules you know what you're looking at.

After using pbucket for 17 years it is painful getting to the posting as it has a different feel, don't know about the type of accounts, yet…. but will see, as if you see the number of how do I do thats I have created and across many forums I may be editing quite a few documents.

Open the album then hover over photo, choose down arrow, you get share links.
choose  the bb code


The above is a copy of the photo and it displays well.
But the Pbucket thing seems to be a hit or miss, as I tried this am, and the linking didn't work, I closed out the page and re-opened it and it is working as it should.  I don't know about the free accounts, but my paid account seems to be holding up for now at least…
Painful, really sad and painfull.

For the last few months the pbucket seems to have gotten worse, I had times where I lost albums, then they came back, site went down then came back up, now can't copy links… and they were blaming Flash, but chrome has it built in, as well as IE, so it isn't a 3rd party app to the main.  It is strictly a Pbucket thing.  I suppose outsourcing is good for the outsourcing company, but it sucks being a user of crappy programming…
Maybe I should start my own company to host stuff…. call it Eye-Share i-Share, but then I would be sued by apple who probably has the "i" words all copyrighted.. I have been involved with outsourcing and they weasel out of most bad issues with that is what you speced…..because they are only seeing one thing, and not the end result….
