Oil pressure gauge off Amazon

Post

Amazon do an oil pressure gauge kit for about £20 which I figured I’d give a go. Anyone know if the adapters included here will work on my mk1 Golf Cabriolet GTi ‘91?

Thanks

I bought a mechanical pressure guage, not fitted it yet though. That was about £30. BTW, your link doesn't work.

Ye it was that one. Ordered it, tried to fit but couldn't get it to fit. managed to give it a few turns before the thread seemed to get caught and didn't dare force it. Either the adapters weren't right or the thread was badly machined. I sent it back. Anyone have alternative recommendations?

The amazon link is for American National Standard Pipe Thread standards not metric?

The trouble with doing nothing is that you never know when you are finished.

Do you know what size you need? I bought on from car builder solutions. M10 male, 1 M10 female and one 1/4" female. The guage I have is a mechanical one though. Most aftermarket guages seem to use imperial fittings.

The gauge came with these fittings below … I thought the M10x1 male would fit into the pressure switch thread on the oil filter housing but didn't. I assumed it was because the adapter might have been badly machined but maybe that wasn't the right thread?

Brass fitting: 3/8"- 18 NPT Male x 1/8"-27 NPT Female
Brass fitting: 1/8"-27 NPT Male x 1/8"-27 NPT Female (90 degree Elbow)
Brass fitting: 1/8"-28 BSPT Male x 1/8"-27 NPT Female (90 degree Elbow)
Brass fitting: M8x1 M x 1/8"-27 NPT Female
Brass fitting: 1/8"-27 NPT Female x 1/8"-27 NPT Female
Brass fitting: 1/4"-18 NPT Female x 1/8"-27 NPT Male
Brass fitting: M10x1 M x 1/8"-27 NPT Female
Brass fitting: M12x1.5 M x 1/8"-27 NPT Female
Brass fitting: M14x1.5 M x 1/8"-27 NPT Female

When measuring oil pressure you are best putting it in the side of the head where the 2nd switch is located (right hand side as your looking at it) it is definitely M10.
