Oil leak please help!!!

Post

image.jpg image.jpg Hi all,

I have an oil leak on my engine which seems to be coming out the top of the engine block. I have changed the rocker cover gasket twice, the first was cork and the current one is rubber. After running my car there is oil everywhere… Given where the oil is, I'm not sure whether it can coming out of anywhere else but the too of the engine block? Any advice will be much appreciated.

Thanks all!!

Did you change over the studs when fitting the rubber gasket? The studs for the cork gasket have a shoulder on them while the rubber gaskets ones don't.

Thanks for your reply, Mark!

I had a cork one in there previously which still leaked even with the same studs… Any other ideas mate?

You have to use shoulderless studs with the g60 on-piece gasket, No Silicone sealer except 2 drops where the cam over starts up front and back.

Then you have to set the nuts to 87 in/lbs or 9.82NM
if you don't get it torqued to that value the gasket will slip and leak, or if too tight it will pool and leak.

Same value if you use the one-piece or not.

To get the shouldered studs out wou can use a stud extractor, the double-nut method, or place a washer over the stud (fender washers are good) The place a pair of small Vice-Grips low on the stud and get it as tight as you can then a couple of TAPS I said taps…of a hammer.

You may be able to salvage your new gasket if it didn't get kinked by the Studs, just clean it off…
You can go back with the 3 piece cork, just don't use sealant except where the cork meets the cam over 1 drop each end, and again set it to the correct torque.
