NO OIL PRESSURE AFTER OIL CHANGE WARNING

Post

Hi everyone just a general warning regarding no oil pressure after oil and filter change, this nearly cost me my new engine so hoping to prevent the same happening to others and compile a list of filters to avoid.
I have never had this problem using bosch filters however the muppet at euro car parts told me they no longer sold bosch oil filters (lie) so bought a mann oil filter.  The 2 times i have used these filters they have not filled and starved the engine of oil.  Both times using these filters I have had to manually prime the oil circuit with the filter off then again with filter in place.  I find the quickest way to do this by removing dizzy and with a drill and long bar with a slot to spin oil pump.
In conclusion i think that the mann filter is slightly more restrictive and therefore the pump cannot fill it, i have reached this conclusion as my operating oil pressure is 0.5 bar higher than with bosch filter.
Any thoughts or other branded filters to avoid?

I've always used Mann filters and never had any problems. What engine are you running?

yup same, MANN filters are oem quality. did you fill the oil filter with oil before you fitted? also if the oil pump has been removed or is new they struggle to self-prime so the trick there is seal the pickup with vaseline then fill them up with oil before refitting.

try it yourself, pop an empty oil pump in a bucket of oil, spin the drive by hand and watch nothing happen. fill it with oil and try again, notice oil pump out the top easily :)

a tip if you forget to prime the pump/filter is make something up to fit an electric drill which you can pop down the dizzy hole to engage the pump drive and spin it up that way, some have had success with that.  leave ignition on and get a helper to watch the oil pressure light, when it goes out you have a head full of oil ready to start :)
