Need Advice - 2 inch Jetex Exhaust

Post

Is my car missing something?

Hi, I recently purchased the 2 inch aluminised steel Jetex System for my mk1.

The system is apparently designed to be a perfect swap from the original, however ive ran into a few problems.

My standard system was using the strap that holds the fuel tank to hold it up in the center, since the system passes the tank anyway. Im not sure if this is right or was just some stupid bodge job of a previous owner, however thats how it sat anyway.

Since upgrading the diameter of the pipe to a 2 inch one, this no longer works. The pipe wont fit in any sort of comfortable way. attached to the pipe is another hanging point, but the car does not have any form of hanging point to accompany it. (see image)

Can someone please shine some light on this for me as im struggling to find a way of holding the centre of the pipe up.

Cheers, Dan

I had this problem with a jetex exhaust but I have the 2.5" version. There was no hanger where the hook was located on the exhaust just before the fuel tank.

I did however have a bracket in the fitting kit that I mounted to that location.

I spoke to jetex about this and they said it was a rally exhaust so required an extra hanger to hold it firmly in place as there is not a hanger on the chassis in this location.

Oh and do you have a small block chassis? I have a small block chassis, maybe they never put one on in the location?

THIS! haha. sorry for the late reply guys. Since i had no replies on the day I assumed people were as confused as me

Ive ended up doing exactly the same. I noticed the additional hanger in the bag, but no second mounting point to bolt it to the pipe, so Ive welded it to the floor of the car in the right place and gave it a fresh lick of underseal when i was done! Hangs up nice now.

Rubjonny; I think youre right as well. When i removed the underseal from the car, to make room for my custom hanger, the metal looked thicker in that spot as if it was once home to one that may have rotted away, and rather than replacing the hanger, underseal/waxoyl was thrown over the spot and forgotten about.

These Mk1s have some dodgy history unfortunately!  :@

Thanks for the help gents!
