Golf 1.6 GLi running 1800+ gti engineering engine with original gearbox!

my newly aquirred golf convertible needs a new clutch as slipping badly, can anyone suggest what type of clutch kit i need to have fitted, car is running around 140bhp and original gti engineering paperwork indicates that an upgraded clutch was fitted by them when the exchange engine went in, i wont be using the car on track days or street racing lol, should i source a good standard kit , or ive read some reports / ads offering stage 1 & 2, really need some advice as dont want to be wasting my money!!!!!!!!!!! many thanks in advance

for 140 bhp all you need is a stock sachs kit, I'd recommend 210mm 1.8 8v unit rather than the 200mm 1.6 unit. this may well be what they did back in the day?

the 210mm kit is man enough for that one, its handling my 166bhp ABF lump and many higher power/torque applications just fine. generally if you have enough torque to make a sachs kit slip, you're gonna blow up the gearbox soon!

if you have a 200mm kit now you'll need a 210mm 1.8 flywheel to fit the bigger 210mm clutch kit. You may find the 200mm kit is fine for you even, if you know how much torque the engine is putting out you can compare to sachs kits here:#
