Restoring Mark 1 Citi Golf to Original Spec Mark 1

800.jpg Hi all, I am exploring the possibility of  purchasing several Golf Citi's 1.4's or 1.6 from South Africa and restoring one or two of them to the original Mark 1 GTI spec. Block included. Few questions: 1.) Has anyone purchased one of these from SA or here in the UK and what are they like? From the reviews l have read they seem well received. 2.) Anyone attempted to modify or restore to the original Spec of the Mark 1? 3.) If l were to restore them to as close a spec as an original Mark 1 what the likely re-sale value would be? I understand obviously that the Citi golfs are 5 door. Any help would be greatly received. Many thanks. 700.jpg

Ignoring the 5 doors I think they are so different to original mk1,s ( even have a different dash don't they?) that it would cost more than most buyers would want to spend. They are what they are. Only my opinion of course.

They have Mk2 style front wings as well , nice cars though if not in one of the lurid colour combinations

To be honest with you I don't think it's going to be worth the time, money and aggravation.

At the end of the day who wants to buy a GTI that's nothing more than a GTI look alike?  O_o

Unless it's cheap of course and I'm guessing they won't be.
Just my thoughts on it, I expect others will see it differently!

Not worth the hassle converting it to gti spec. Have always wondered what sort of price you would pay for a half decent one including import tax and shipping though
