Hi All,

so its decision time for my up and coming resto. I've two Gti's

A Mars Red Tin Top - very rusty and needs lots of welding. Engine and interior spot on. No history.

or

A Lhasa Green Tin Top - virtually perfect Shell. Lots of bits missing. Excellent history and cool number plate.

so my dilemma …. I love Mars Red but it's the much harder resto……

Is there love out there for Lhasa Green!?

It will have to grow on me…..

oppnions welcome :-)

p.s Money is object :-)

Both colours are great. Mars red is an iconic colour for the GTi and is also extreamly rewarding to look at after a good valet & polish. Lhasa green is a great colour and comes into it's own on a sunny day. If both are non sunroof models then it's a difficult decision. Engine and mechanical components are widely available so if you choose to do the one without its engine then sell the other to finance the restoration.

For most folk it's much easier spannering parts than welding and painting so I'd swap the mechanicals from red to the green, with perhaps sourcing correct coloured seats. Then put the remaining scrap parts and shell on ebay for £2,500 barn find GTI to restore………..

The trouble with doing nothing is that you never know when you are finished.

Lasha green is my favourite colour mk1. Oak green on a mk2. Looks great with green tint glass and a lot more stylish. However if doing huge engine mods and making as fast as possible then maybe red more appropriate. I would only change my car for a campaign or a lasha car. Otherwise I am keeping my one black. I just had it painted and I agonised about a colour change but I couldn't do it I have this thing where if it left the factory a certain colour then it stays that colour unless you do a 100% strip down and colour change and I couldn't do that presently. Short answer pick green will be more desirable in my unqualified and entirely selfish opinion
