Hi all,
this has happened a few times, every time before the engine has had a chance to properly warm up. It always happens at low speeds, when stopping or slowing right down.
the revs completely drop and for a short period of time the battery light and the temperature hazards lights flash.
the first time it happened i managed to pull up and then drive off 30 seconds later after giving it a chance to breath a bit, but I was on a roundabout the second time and the only way of keeping it going was to rev it right up in the 30's.
any ideas as to what this could be, thank you very much for taking the time out to help!
All the best
Frederick

Hey john, its an 89 cabby, 1.8.
through borednow and also speaking to garages it sounds like a problem with the auto choke. Im not gonna take it all apart as i don't know enough about it yet. might get in touch with the london forums see if anyone can have a look at it!
unless there is anything else it could be?

from your description I would start with the carb flange seal, if you wiggle the carb at idle do the revs change? also is the metal steady bracket from the front of the rocker cover to the stud on the airbox there? if missing the carb flaps around too much and this kills the flange.
I would also give it a full ignition service, new cap, arm, leads and plugs as well as the fuel and air filters etc just to rule out the easy things first:
AVS Car Parts - [The VW - Audi - Seat - Skoda Parts Specialist]
if all the above checks out have a look thru this here thread:

the coolant channel oring is a good one, not too bad to change as long as you can get to all 6 inlet manifold bolts
