Help, car doesnt work!!

I'm hoping someone on here can help me solve the mystery of why my car is not working.  Basically, when I'm sitting in neutral and reving the engine it cuts out above 3000 revs.  I cant drive it due to this problem and I don't know how to fix it.   It also misfires.  Any help would be appreciated, its a mk1 cabrio 1986 if that helps.cf_emoticons__BangHead:
