Information required

Help...Information wanted. I own a Helios blue Mk1 GTI. The car is on a Y plate, not an A plate. The car was made to order and picked up from a factory in Germany. The service history is all English and the car is right hand drive. Unfortunately I have to sell her soon due to immigrating. Does any one else know of any more earlier than campaign model Helios blue cars, or have any figures on now many "bespoke" cars were made? Many thanks.

Not sure about any of your questions but I'll be looking out for when you put it in the for sale section as I like the colour.

Hi Swerve. It does have tinted glass. I know it prev had Pslots, as the spare is there, plus the lady I bought her from did say it had them on. It came with some 80's alloys on it, since removed for mk2 P's. It can't I think be a campaign golf as its registered 14/12/1982. I know the first owner was a wealthy gold dealer from London who ordered the car in this colour with I would say his choice of options, I have all the paperwork from the dealership in Germany where he picked it up. It has factory sunroof grey stripped interior, no leather steering wheel and no spotlights. I have never seen another in this colour pre A reg, pre ordered from Germany. I really would like to know if anyone else has a pre campaign Helios blue GTI. Also I must ask whats it worth. Full history, VW to 55k then local garage up to its present 145K, all paperwork and receipts. Mostly original paintwork, few dinks etc, but solid, no obvious welding etc. The engine is smooth, with a head re build at 100K, sadly she has to go soon, I would rather advertise than bloody Ebay! Cheers Swerve.

She was pre ordered from the uk, a Gold dealer from London, so I know she's not an armed forces car. Cheers

Sadly she will be up for sale in a few weeks, I'm leaving the country for good, she can't go with me! Cheers.

Mate that's really interesting not sure what to say as I would have thought that was to early for Helios blue to even be offered and p slots unless it was available in Europe earlier? Could be wrong though
Has it got the sticker in the boot with codes on? Has it ever been resprayed? Have you got any pictures you could post up? RichardHall , Yomp have you any thoughts guys?

Hi mate. Its it's factory colour, its never been resprayed, its paintwork is mostly original, bit faded here and there! The A pslot was in the boot, the lady I purchased it from seemed to think it had the set with it at some point, it was owned by the same family in Somerset for years, although very possible they were added. However, the wheels that I took off it were Monti Carlo alloys, from the mid to late 80's. I guess we will never know! The order code is still there, like most of it's stickers. Even still has the bar code on the drivers side! I will post them tomorrow when it's light. The car was picked up from the Offenbach dealer ship 12/12/1982 by it's original owner. I will send you a pictur or too. Cheers

Whatever the history, it sounds a nice car in a good colour.  Looking at the registration date then this can't be a Campaign, but a Standard GTi with some extras. I don't recollect the P Wheels being available before the Campaign came out in mid 83 but who knows what was happening overseas.  There are done different colour combinations that we never officially had over here - grey and a rose colour come to mind and these have turned up in Uk as special imports.
Here is a rose one with a similar looking spec to yours

One final thought, are the bumpers and wheel arch extensions black or body coloured as the Pirelli Edition Mk1 was the equivalent almost of the Campaign and I think available a little earlier in some overseas markets.

Hi Richard. The above is similar, as in single headlight and windscreen plastics, although mine is obviously right hand drive. I will get some pictures later hopefully, if not the def the weekend. I may contact the ownership responsible for the service history, Monaco's of LOndon. The guy who ordered the car must have done it through someone, so I pressume it was them. Thanks ever so much for your thoughts, I'm really p*ssed off I have to sell her, but such is life! Will see what other information comes up!

Hi Swerve, thanks for your help, we are getting somewhere! Appears to be a special import. The lady I purchased her off did say "Tony" had it made as he wanted it in this colour(Helios blue). I have the service book, all stamped by Monaco's of London, so I may contact them, you never know there may be some further information filed away somewhere! Really really don't want to sell her, but 4K to get her to Canada, and she woudn't like -25, so she will have to find a new home in a couple of weeks, thanks for all your help, will get some pictures to you as soon as time allows! Cheers mate.

Hi Swerve. I will get round to photo's at some point! The options are as follows: 183  184  186  430  560  568 and 732. She was purchased from VAG Reinhold Bittorf KG, 6050 Offenbach/M registered 14/12 1982. Monaco's VW Kensington are going to get back to me as they serviced her from new, so may hold records as to how this car came about. Cheers Treve

Starting to become an interesting thread. I love the history of our old mk1 golfs and for me it adds value to the car.

My own Golf was a RHD made in Germany and brought over later on in dec 1983.

You can get a birth certificate from VW,

It gives the codes, it isn't 100% exact as they got the colour wrong on another VW I had done and also they don't know some of their own codes.

Cool! Still researching my beast! Coming together, lots of emails regarding her, one bloke even accused me of telling porkies…It was resprayed, it can't be blue!

Hi Swerve. I do have it's birth cirtificate! It came with like a German passport, obviously it's way into the country. It has all the details of the car on it, where it was made etc. I think I also have a bill of sale as well. Also I have like a German service voucher with her, from 1982 as well as the dealership it was purchased from. I will get some pictures on here soon. I'm currently working 7 days a week, as I'm off to Canada to live! I hope someone will make me a good offer for her, I really don't want to ebay it…God forbid! Monaco's of London are researching there archive at the moment, they serviced her from 1982 until 1997, so more to come. Cheers Swerve
