hi, can anyone enlighton me im changing my handbrake cable on both sides on my car ,i had a bit of agro getting the drums off as the shoes were rubbing up against the  drum but got them off eventually. Ive fed the new cables through but noticed the shoes need to be adjusted inwards on both sides toward the axle stub .Ive seen a post on the same subject and it states look for the wedge bit with a spring on the bottom you need to push the wedge up in order to losen off the shoes and down to take up lose play .Now im confused as to how you are supposed to push this metal type wedge or as some have described it as a [wwsbomb] up or down as i can see it only will move side to side .I think the shoes maybe adjusted out to the max and stuck in that position as a rough guess to why they wont budge ,im sorry to sound a bit thick but ive sat looking at the shoes on the car wondering it cant be this difficult ,dont they normally have a small star that you turn ? any advice guys would be great thought i was doing a fairly simple job ….thanks pete

see if you can prise the shoes apart which will take the weight off the adjuster wedge then pry the wedge upwards (away from the stub axle) then release/allow the shoes to go back inwards…..then when the drums are back on,poke a pointed screwdriver through a wheel bolt hole into the hole in the wedge and lever upwards against the drum..you should here the adjuster wedge `click up`..should be job done.
