Gearbox went bang, first breakdown in golf

Settling In
No 5th gear anymore
Had my first ever breakdown yesterday in a mk1 golf (not bad for about 10 years of driving them)
I was driving in 5th gear and just push my foot down a little bit (1.8t AUM) and 5th gear just crumbled and rattled beneath me (luckily using my discounted RAC cover I was picked up in about an hour).
So a question is, do any of you guys know or could recommend any gearbox recon experts out there, also is it worth adding a LSD (probably after tuning will be running around 210bhp) not worth the extra expense?
Hopefully after I have sorted the gearbox another 10 years on breakdown free driving
