Fitting A Car Door!

Post

Hi guys!!

I purchased a new door for my Golf a few months ago & still haven’t got round to fitting it yet, with it coming up to winter I really do need to get this done sooner rather than later! I haven’t a clue what to expect when attempting to swap the doors over and was wondering if someone could just give me a heads up on how difficult this is? Will I need to buy any other parts for the swap like door pin etc.?

Help meee!.

If it's the same in every aspect maybe apart from say the colour as your old one.

About 15 minutes.

Just be careful not to damage the plastic membrane between the old card and the whole metal door.
(if it's still there of course)

You can clearly see it pictured here!

Remove the winder winder = 1 screw
Remove the door handle = 2 screws

Then carefully start to pull the trim off starting at the very bottom corners, you'll see how it comes away.
Avoid using tools if you can!

Fortunately the new door I have is complete, so I shouldn't need to swap anything over from the old door.

I just need to know how to take the old door off the car & what implications this might have  . I can see me breaking absolutely everything in the process!

My misunderstanding, I should have read the title more slowly!  O_o

I've not done the complete door, so I'll leave this one to those who have!

You'll get your answers over the weekend I'm sure, if not before.  ;)

Basically First need to disconnect any electrical wiring, probably in the door, then disconnect the stay that stops the door opening too far.  The door is only held on with 2 bolts, need someone to support the door while they are undone, I would loosen them both and remove bottom one first. The stay and 2 bolts are accessible when the door is open fully.

Thanks anyway golf Cabrio 1990  .

abfmk1 - When removing the door, do you know if anything will snap/break at all? I just don't want to go to change it & then find that I needed more parts  .

As long as the 2 bolts (that hold the weight of the door) are the last thing to be undone , and the door is supported while they are, then no nothing should break/snap.

trolley jack under door with a piece of wood supporting the door itself.

mark on the hinge area before you take it off. when you put the new one on it will go back to more or less the right place.
