Hi everyone, i have had my 1991 Golf cabby for about 3 years now and i Have been maintaining it alot myself over this time with the help of your forums. It has come to the point where i would like your help
I recently had the car at the garage and they suggested i got new coilovers as mine are you "nakered". Currently the car is sat very low and to be honest i would prefare it sat a little higher. The car is mainly for just driving out when the sun is shining, so im not looking for anything too flash….just so its all in good order to drive.I'm reaching out to you, to either advise me on some coilovers that would fit on my golf, and be relatively cheap….or wondering if any of you have any ones for sale.thanks in advance,Adam

Mark carter does a budget set.. ..change to them . Ive got on my white cabby and green clipper. I currently sit too low on clipper for long journeys at least. But i think going back up 10mm will be a good compromise. Im running 4 cabbies and 1 tin top at varying heights on 15" alloys. Of top of my head 19 1/2" to 22 1/2" to centre of arches.
On the drive

Personally I'd go for shocks and springs instead of coilovers. Usually cheaper and a better ride to.
Alternatively I'll be selling my Prosport Coilovers soon (less than 1000 miles old) if you are looking for a replacement

Vogtland Coilovers.

Work perfectly. Definitely worth the extra over JOM, NJT or Pro Sport coilies.
Not a hell of a lot more than a good set of dampers and springs.
I love em! and I've used the cheaper ones.

Thanks for the replys guys
I think for now the Vogtland ones are a bit on the pricey side, but thanks for the suggestion.
The budget ones seem more my kind of thing. Ive had a look at them on here https://www.classic-vw.co.uk/suspension-kits-664-c.asp I just have a query regarding the 40/40, 60/40 and 80/60?
1985 - when do you think you would be ready to sell yours? and what would you be looking for?
thanks

Hi Guys,
I am round to looking at coilovers again as the next job to do.
It currenty has coilovers and i'm ideally wanting to replace these, and keep the car at the height that its sat at. (See pic)
im aware that i need new top mounts as they look pretty nakered that are on!
Ideally i dont want to spend more than £250. Its only a car i use when the weather is decent, not my regular car, so im not bothered about spending £1000's on it to make it amazing handling etc.
Below are two of many that i have looked at. Would either of them be any good? Or does anyone on here have any coilovers that they are looking at selling?

Yes those top mounts are shot, buy FEBI top mounts as all the others I've tried don't last as long, even the FEBI top mounts don't seem to last as long as they used to…
Pump in some silicone around the base of the top mount to help make it last longer.
info on where to use some silicone sealant.

I can't vouch for the Mk1 set but I've got Stance coilovers on my BMW and they ride beautifully.
