Clipper Audio Upgrade...

Post

Afternoon! Have been searching around a bit to find out what others have done to improve the audio quality in their clippers but haven't had much luck.

Would love to know what you've done / see photos :-)

Thanks!

Mike

I simply (after a bit of pratting about with the connectors and mounts) replaced the old knackered "Made in Tunisia" speakers with new and transformed the quality and quantity of the sound output. See towards bottom of this

Hi mikespence.. I see someone pointed you in the direction of my audio install.. Although it has been quite a journey for me (as you can see in my thread) There are basic principles you can apply to improve the sound from your car. First of all, understanding how a speaker works will help you make the improvements to you car to allow for good quality sound to be produced. It is not as simple as buying an expensive stereo or speakers. That alone won't make the difference it should. If you take the time to read my post, you should have a much better understanding of what you will need to do to improve the sound in your car.. If after reading it you are still unsure or have any questions, then by all means give me a call and I will advise you as best I can. There is no magic speaker that solves the problem of terrible sound in a mk1 cabriolet. It is all down to how that speaker is installed and the factors that govern its performance.. So get a cup of tea, read my post from start to finish and then if need be, give me a call.. Cheers.. Walt.. 07861801582

Oh and by the way, I will be going to the AGM on the Sunday weather permitting. By all means come and find me and I will give you a demo of my install. Mine is all about quality, not volume, boom or tizz.. But none the less, it has plenty of oomf to it.. Whichever way you want to go, I can guide you in the right direction..

Thanks Walt, that's really helpful.

For me, it's about quality. I used to work as a sound engineer so am very picky about sound (probably bought the wrong car for that!). I'm going to upgrade the front door speakers. I managed to pick up some Rivage door pockets which will allow me to put some bigger speakers in and then will put some tweets in too.

Probably won't do anything with the back ones, they are in a pretty stupid place (firing straight in to passengers leg!) and then I'll put a small 6" sub in the boot. I'll power the fronts & sub from a 4 channel amp. That's my current thinking anyway :-)

I won't be at the AGM unfortunately but will keep you in mind if I have any questions etc going forward. Thanks again!

Give me a call before you do anything Mike.. I started with those same standard door pods… They are thin plastic and for want of a better description are functional at best.. Give me a call..
