About a week ago I came across a 1960 MK1 Bub-eye (frog-eye).
It was very pristine looking, and the owner took me through all that he had done after purchasing it from a Restorer…
The engine bay was nice and clean and tidy, had the proper grill and wheels, the interior was gorgeous. All the proper badges were on the car and even the NO Seat Belts were not there….  How Ever,  when I looked at the engine… Well that wasn't OEM.. His restorer had put in the larger 1275.  I told him that was a really clean car, but it wasn't OEM.  The Original power plant was a 948CC engine… He looked at me and said how do you know that.  I said because I have a 1958, and a 1960 sitting in a Barn in Illinois that still is OEM with the 948's an on my 58 I have the Original Import documents and Brochures…. :).   So some things just look out of place.

But I did see a 72- or 4 Datsun 240z yester day, that was totally immaculate save for the rear markers.

So I guess you didn't buy the frog eye then?  Not sure a larger engine would deter me but if you're looking for pure OEM then I understand it

That Datsun is nice!

And as for OEM I do get that and was the main reason why I had a mad moment and brought a completely standard Scooby even down to original stereo.

The only other car that I wished I had kept was my 72 Rover 3500S.  But alas I had 4 cars all drivable, and I was stationed 2000 miles away, so something had to go.  My Rover, My MG, but the Bug-eye (Frog-eye) was saved…from the sale.
