9a 2l engine block, oil leak help!

Post

IMG_1216\[1].JPG Evening, I am runnin a 2l 16v 9a engine in my Mk1. This is slightly unknown territory for me as I have little experience with these engine. Only the standard 1.8/1.6 mk1 engines. The car is also a new purchase.

I have come across a slight oil leak coming from the top of the block. Looks like a distribute casing. Does anyone know if this can be removed assuming an o ring is where the leak is coming from. i am having trouble uploading a pic. But will do as soon as I can. Currently don't have the old faithful Haynes manual for this engine yet!r

That's where a dizzy would be on an 8v, it's just a cog inside to drive the oil pump on these 16v's

I'm pretty sure there isn't an O ring in there but harm looking. Little difficult to remove though, usuall well tight in.

Ok thanks Brad. Any reason for leaking from there? Block somewhere?

Is it 100% coming from there or just gathering there, its a good holding point for oil, maybe coming from rocker gasket and fallings down? What's the engine running, standard injection? There's a breather in the block is this going to the inlet or a filter?

Yes 100% coming from there. Ran the car up to warm and under rev oil is pushing up over the metal plate/bracket.

Its running twin carbs so no fuel injection, the breather on the block is going to a filter. I did clean this but does seem pretty gunked up.

Hmmm it's an awkward one.

Try whip it off, I can't remember for the life of me of there's an O ring in there that's all
