3 door / 5 door / Caddy doors interchangability

I'm on the look out for doors as the old ones are a bit rough but there's not many (if any) around for a Caddy / 5 door however there are quite a few for 3 doors and convertibles.

I know that the doors are different lengths, but are they the same height and general shape? Rear 'angles' the same etc etc?

If I can't find any then I'll just fix what I've got but the Caddy doors have holes where the mirrors were (inside and out) and at the back corners and it's going to take quite a bit of work so if I could use something else and make it fit then it'd be useful (and save me some time!)


 

Well, following on from the previous post, I can confirm that 3-door doors are about 200mm longer than 5-door ones across the bottom of the window and the window frame also looks thicker.

I know because I've just bought a pair to use as donors, however as they are both really solid with virtually zero rust I'm in 2 minds about cutting them up

Oh, and they fit quite well in my car  just above freezing, roof down, what's not to like !

Reminds me of when I placed 3 sheets of plywood on my rollbar, and front windscreen and tied it down.

A gentle person at the Home Store said "Your doing that to your car?"

I said "Why not it is a Convertible, one day topless, rainyday covered, and when I need a Truck for a small load,  after all they don't call it a convertible for nothing." to which he smiled, shrugged his head and walked away.

My Brother has a picture of me driving my MG Midget topless in a Snow Storm blowing… Of course I have a sweater and Parka on with the Snorkel Hood up, Stocking hat, goggles and gloves on…. I wish he would find it, but oh the joys of trying to locate a 50 year old picture after 3 moves….  you can barely make out the Tonneau Cover…. But I did have folks laughing at me during the drive home 10-12 miles, I was glad to lighten their day…  I can also remember looking out at my car that was totally buried in snow all you could see was the hump of the roof outline….And to think heaters were an option you had to buy back in those days.

Although I did sell a 10ft by 6ft sheet of reinforcing mesh the other day and the guy arrived to collect it in a tiny Citroen and put it on the roof! More of it was sticking out than was actually over the car!

I wont mention the guy that cam to collect a 6m (18ft) piece of reinforcement bar in a smart car  

Any hooo, Blah blah I could do with an excellent drivers door possibly. How much cutting do you need to do?

I think there were some 5 door doors knocking about as the bro in law was needing some

You have to remember that the 67 MG Midget really didn't have a great heater, and that with the top up or top down, you usually had snow coming in the car when it was the fine powdery mix.   . oh my misspent youth, wrenching on cars and chasing girls…… and having a blast.

And after further investigation, there are a number of significant differences between the 3-door doors I've just bought and the Caddy ones. The main difference is they're off a Mk2   

Although I now feel a bit better about cutting them up !  

Anyone want a pair of Mk2 doors???
