Up for sale is my Mk1 Golf GX. This car is in excellent condition for its age and everything is working as it should.

This is my first car that I bought back in January 2011. I am the third owner of the Golf, the first owner had it until 1985 and then the second owner had it until I bought it. It had 79,000 miles on it when I bought it, the previous owner was an elderly gentlemen and he was only doing about 500 miles per year in it.

I have kept this Golf in its original condition as this is a rare car, only 78 on the road today, and I didn’t want to ruin it by lowering it and sticking a stupid body kit on it (like everyone else seems to do). The Golf GX was a run out model and it was basically a GTi but without the engine. It featured chrome trim and alloy wheels. This Golf has a factory fitted steel sunroof (it does not leak) as well.

The Golf is stored in a garage and only gets used on the weekends as I cycle to work during the week.

I fitted a Weber carb (36 TLP), with a manual choke, when I bought the car as I didn’t like the automatic choke on the original solex/pierburg carb. I have regularly serviced the car, recently changed coolant, oil and oil filter, rocker cover gasket etc. I think the fan coolant switch could do with being replaced as the fan has been a bit intermittent lately. Everything else is working fine, I have done quite a few 400 mile round trips and it has never let me down.

Due to it being 30 years old the exterior work is not in immaculate condition, it does have the odd scratches, bumps and car park dents. I replaced the driver’s door when I bought it as it was corroded, I got it repainted in the original colour (Meteor Metallic Grey) but it was slightly different shade so doesn’t match exactly. It has had some welding done whilst I have owned in it; new sills, n/s/f floor section and front passenger seatbelt mount so it should be fine for many years to come.

The interior is in excellent condition, I gave the seats and carpets a good clean with a carpet cleaning when I bought it and it came out looking like new. It has MOT until November this year and tax until the end of September. The tax is cheap due to it being under the 1500cc tax band.

The reason why I am selling it is because I used to be able to get classic car insurance for it but they have stopped doing classic car policies for under 25s and I can’t afford the insurance for this year. I would keep it if the insurance was cheaper.

Any questions please don’t hesitate to ask.
