Summery: I spent 6 months finding this Mk1. I looked at over 15 cars till I found a really solid and honestly described car. Hand built and restored in Plymouth by an engineer son and his electrician father.
Don't be put off by it being an 8v, it is very, very quick and will keep pulling off the 120mph clocks! BUT has loads of low down torque, is simple, looks standard and is cheaper to insure. (£340 classic car Ins, fully comp with agreed value of £3,500.)
The brakes are very quick, firm and responsive with none of the usual poor braking of the Mk1 Golf. The gear change is perfect. With a recent clutch and new handbrake cables.
Flown through the last 3 MOT with NO advisories.
Please note the car now has the original rear and headlights lights fitted and chrome grill. There is also a fuel pump/cooling fan override switches for track days.   





   EDIT - rolling road done straight after running in with standard cam. Now it's had a few miles under it's belt
and with a decent cam I should imagine its up a few horses? Certainly feels very strong to drive. I would get it rolling roaded again and guess I will if it does not sell with these numbers

Engine spec: 145 bhp and 147 Torques. Built approx 35k miles ago.
-   2E Block bored to 2.1 L with oversize pistons.
-   Mk2 Golf 8v big valve head, polished and ported.
-   Audi polished & ported inlet manifold, throttle body and WUR.
-   Piper Vernier Cam Pulley.
-   4 branch manifold.
-   Full Performance Stainless Exhaust. (Quiet and standard looking)
-   Fully rebuilt gearbox when engine built.
-   Rose jointed and rebuilt gear-linkage with short shift.
-   SACHS performance clutch fitted 6k miles ago.
-   Oil/filter change every 3.5k miles since built.
-   Always run on optimax fuel.

Chassis and brakes:
-   Eibach sport performance coils 40mm drop.
-   Koni shocks.
-   All suspension and ARB bushes recently changed.
-   3 Strut braces; front upper / lower and rear.
-   TSR big brake kit - 270mm cross drilled disks.
-   16v servo and braided brakes lines.
-   Rear beam has been removed, stripped and refitted with new bushes.
-   Rear beam mounting points inspected, cleaned and welded. (This is the first place for any corrosion. They were very clean on this car but fully cleaned and repaired for piece of mind.)
-   15" TSW gun-metal grey wheels. Mint uncurbed.
-   Toyo Proxes 195, 50, r15. No scrubbing.

Exterior and interior:
-   Paint is very clean, and very shiny. No fade and few blemishes.
-   Chassis is clean and rust free. No rot in suspension turrets, spare wheel area, fuel filler neck, boot or sills. Bulkhead and clutch cable area are un-welded, original and clean.
-   Original seats in very good condition. Drivers bolster un-ripped and firm.
-   Original uncut parcel shelf.
-   VDO gauges oil temp / pressure and voltage gauge all working correctly.
-   Carpets and dash very good.
-   Decent component speakers in the front.
-   Uprated headlight loom. No dim headlights!
-   (TOAD)Key fob immobilised. With certificate and spare fob key.

 The car is situated in S.Devon 10 minutes from the A38. I am happy to arrange viewings. I am happy to meet you at my own home not some car park somewhere!
