Hi  I am selling a 1982 Mk1 GTI project The car is silver and I have been tracing its history from new with a view to originally restoring it back to standard spec.Since buying it recently I have had an offer of something else (mini related) that I know more about! I dont have any knowledge at all of golfs and to be honest would feel better If i can strip a car that I plan to restore. So after a very short ownership the car has to be sold The history is that it was bought in Germany by a company director in 82, the second owner paid £6000 for it and then it stayed on the same family going to his wife and finally his son to use/own. The son did carry out some work on the car. Then it was bought by the previous owner who stripped it and fitted (only tacked on) new rear arches and rear valance. I have purchased a grill(for the spots) and a pair of new wings (one has been painted gold) also a lower front valance. The interior is good other than the usual drives seat lumbar issue, the back seat is good (has 2 very minor marks - a small burn (not cig) and a fray), the rear parcel shelf is still as one with no speaker holes. the car comes with everything seen in photos in. I have some origianal VW booklets in german (the service book has one stamp near date of purchase) and bunch of invoices. The engine is still a 1600 (not sure if original). Floors are good with minor areas in front footwell that require work. Headlining is torn in one corner (will need repair or new one). "we purchased the car in 82 from a local vw dealership to the west Derby. I was told it was driven over from Germany and was a Directors car.It cost about 6k and had about 15k on the clock.It was in as new condition and I think the GTI was the car of the year.I could have purchased a new Campaign  model for  about the same price.  It was driven by myself and then my wife and then was retired for about 5 years.At this point it had about 70k on the clock. It was renovated for my son who drove it for about 4 years before selling it to a guy in Birmingham about 3/4 years ago.It was a little unreliable   when my wife drove it as it would just conk out and then restart when i arrived to assist!. Im not sure  what the issue was but i suspected the electronic sender which was known to fail when hot and then recover.The issue didnt arrise when my son had it- - we must have replaced something!  We had the head skimmed - we may have replaced the original engine or just the head -I know I purchased  another 2nd hand engine at some point"
