Mk 1 "E" reg caddy for sale (1.6 petrol, 4 speed)

Firstly please bear with me on this one as I am working abroad at the moment so I will run with this as best as I can.  I am home next on the 24th December, unfortunately I have the keys out here with me until then..

I think I am going to tentitively put my Caddy up for sale.  I am working abroad and the caddy is sitting unused while I am away so it simply does not make sense to keep it on top of the other 2 Toyotas I own.  I will not be breaking or offering any parts separately.

The Caddy has been fun to work on and really great to drive around in and I have been stopped many times with admiring onlookers because it looks in such good condition and is such an uncommon vehicle these days.

The Caddy is a Mk 1 1988 "E" reg pick-up with approximately 84,000 miles on the clock.  The original 1.6 petrol engine has been previously fitted with a Weber 32/34 DMTL carburettor, drives very well on the original 4 speed gearbox and pulls very strong.  I have been achieving about 34mpg quite easily from this set-up on standard 95RON fuel.  The engine has been serviced by the previous owners and in the time I have had it I have done the following…

1.   Fitted new spark plugs
2.   Fitted new HT leads
3.   Fitted new points and condenser
4.   Fitted new oil filter
5.   Fitted new fuel filter
6.   Fitted new air filter
7.   Fitted new expansion bottle cap
8.   Fitted new water pump belt -timing belt checked, been changed recently and not required to be changed
9.   Fitted new bolts to camshaft and water pump pulleys
10.   Fitted new rocker cover seals
11.   Fluids including engine oil changed
12.   Set up the Weber carburettor properly and adjusted the cam timing using strobe gun.  The Weber is less than 2 years old and new when purchased
13.   Painted the rocker and cam belt covers with silver VHT paint

In addition I have also tended to the following items…

1.   Replaced front shocks with new VMaxx coilovers
2.   Replaced 2 front tyres with new items
3.   Fitted new uprated and shortened shock absorbers on rear axle
4.   Fitted new adjustable leaf spring shackles to rear leaf springs -axle has been flipped previously but shackles allow the rear ride height to be adjusted up and down easily
5.   Fitted 2 new Powerflex PU suspension bushes on the leaf springs
6.   Replaced all the exhaust hangers with new items -exhaust is reasonably new and in good condition (fitted by previous owner)
7.   Fitted new wiper blades and other consumables

The Caddy was originally maroon and re-sprayed white by a previous owner several years ago.  I stripped it and re-sprayed it in a RAL blue / grey colour -all except the engine bay (still red) and some parts of the interior which are covered.  The painting was done using 2k commercial products and the work carried out in a professional spray bake booth.  During the refurb I did the following work…

1.   Fitted new passenger door (import VW door from South Africa)
2.   Fitted new VW door seals -both doors
3.   Fitted new VW window scraper seals -both doors
4.   Fitted new VW bonnet and tailgate damper rubbers and other misc seals and grommets
5.   Fitted door sill trims and protective textured trim inserts on sill faces
6.   Fitted new VW rain tray / scuttle panel -South African version which is twice as wide as original one
7.   Moved the aerial from the wing to a screen mounted amplified on in the front windscreen
8.   Fitted new rear 4 piece sliding window (American import)
9.   Fitted new aftermarket single piece 5 slat de-badged front grille
10.   Fitted new self adhesive chrome finish swage line trims, the original sill chrome trim was cleaned and re-fitted with new trim clips
11.   Various rust holes / patches removed and replaced with fresh metal etc
12.   Re-painted the fuel tank and undersealed everything underneath I could get to
13.   Replaced interior blower fan resistors with new ones (aftermarket)
14.   Fitted new Kenwood head unit and 2 off 6x9" speakers in small carpeted boxes behind seats.  Head unit plays MP3 CD's and has an aux in port on front
15.   Replaced the ash tray with a panel fitted with a cigarette lighter, TIM 52mm tacho and voltmeter (all new items)
16.   Upgraded the headlight loom with feeds direct from battery, new relays and individual fuses plus uprated headlight bulbs
17.   Interior carpet was removed, cleaned and additional black acoustic carpet installed
18.   2 new door cards were made by myself, lined with new vinyl, door vents removed and new stock VW black window winder handles fitted.  Door cards use the original VW trim clips etc
19.   Fitted Mk1 Golf GTI side mirrors which were re-furbished, painted black with a slightly textured OEM type finish
20.   The original wiper arms were removed, sand blasted and re-painted and fitted with some new plastic grommets
21.   Fitted new VW OEM rear light clusters
22.   Fitted new DVLA approved standard license plates and rear plate lights
23.   Fitted new door striker pins
24.   The Caddy was stripped of most of its parts, sanded and sprayed with 2K etch primer (U-POL) and finished with 2K IMRON commercial top coat
25.   The tailgate has a very slight bow inside but has no marks or dents inside or out and the "VOLKSWAGEN" lettering is highlighted with silver vinyl trim
26.   I stripped and painted the rear cargo bay with "Raptor Liner" -black mottled professional bed spray.  The bed itself is pretty straight but has had some patches welded in and no major dents to wheel arches etc.
27.   I fitted an aluminium tool chest which is bolted at the front end of the load bay.  This was custom made for me from flat aluminium plate with tread plate hinged lid and is plenty big enough to carry luggage, tools etc. out of view

The Caddy is also fitted with…

1.   ATS cup 15" wheels and 195x50x15 tyres -wheels have been refurbished previously and fitted with locking bolts
2.   Half leather sports recliners from Rover Coupe with custom sub frames to fit Mk 1 seat rails
3.   Momo Race steering wheel and boss
4.   Number "8" black pool ball gear knob
5.   The rear bumpers have been removed

Some points to note (I will list these to be fair on potential viewers)…

1.   Both rear wheel arches need replacing and the rear near side wheel has caught the arch.  This is not urgent and can be attended to at any point and should not affect the next MOT
2.   The front tyres are as new, rear tyres in good condition but near side has some wear marks from catching on wheel arch.  All tyres are non big brand items.
3.   Final touch-ups and final polishing of the paint work has not been finished yet but looks absolutely fine on general viewing although there are a couple of lines of primer showing on edges where the paint was polished a little too deep
4.   There is a dent on the drivers door which needs pulling by someone like "Dent Devils"
5.   There is a dent in the front lower valance -this was not corrected before the refurb -needs a new valance panel to be prefect but low down so not too noticeable
6.   There are one or 2 rust spots but nothing major that I am aware of -the front wings and arches are absolutely solid
7.   The Recaro seats have no rips, rears to the leather or fabric -there is some slight bolster wear but the seats will look brand new if a coloured leather conditioning kit is applied
8.   I have not fitted the GTI mirror adjuster mechanisms yet -these will come with a pair of rubber gaiters, new locking nuts and new adjuster knobs from VW
9.   The aluminium tool chest needs light polishing to remove some scratches on the flat rear panel

…Apart from replacing the rear arches there is nothing more required than DIY driveway maintenance.  I just have not had time to get round to finishing the items listed.

I also have the following items which will be supplied with the truck, these were either good parts which were replaced before or new parts (prices are approximate purchased values)…

1.   A new under bonnet sound deadening felt kit from Newton Commercial (£35)
2.   2 used clear front indicator lenses and amber inserts
3.   A new Microscan alarm kit -unopened box (£100)

5.   1 centre section from OEM type single headlamp grille.  This is used and shows signs of age
6.   1 new black ABS plastic eyebrow trim -never fitted (£15)

8.   2 new OEM style plastic rear arch stone protectors for Mk1 golf -partially adapted but not fitted so far (£20)
