Mk 1 1.8 GTI '83

Mark 1 1.8 GTI ?83 for sale.

I have a Mk1 Golf up for sale as it was bought as a present for my boyfriend who has since moved to Sweden. I am planning to relocate myself and need to sell the car as I am unable to take it with me.

I have loads of paperwork and receipts for the car from previous owners and also have the original manuals and service schedules. The original number plates will be included in the sale.

The bodywork is in really good condition apart from a small amount of rust on one of the rear lower panels but, I do have a replacement panel and there is a small dent in the bonnet.

The car is currently sat on the drive under a car cover and  hasn?t been started in months. It failed its M.O.T. in September 2006 and has been registered as SORN since February 2007.

It failed its M.O.T. for the following reasons:
Front washer not working (Fixed)
Offside headlamp not working, adversely affecting beam (Fixed)
Offside rear fog lamp not working
Offside steering rack gaiter split
Nearside front and rear and Offside front tyres below legal limit
Rear exhaust system mounting missing (fixed)

The interior of the Golf is generally in good condition but, needs some care in places. The roof lining is slightly torn, due to an aerial being installed, and there are some rips in the drivers seat.

This car is lovely and photos will be added as soon as possible.

The vehicle is currently not drivable due to flat tyres and dead battery.

Offers in the region of ?1,300

Location: Warwick (West Midlands)

Hi, i dont mean to be rude, , price seems very steep for a car that needs some TLC, so pictures may help a lot

I paid less than that recently for an 83 GTI with a full years mot

I agree with Lawsey.
I have been looking for a few months, and what you are decribing is way over priced. Without an MOT who knows what suprises await the new owner on a car so old.

If it's easy to fix, then get it done yourself and you'll get that price. Otherwise, you'll be lucky to shift it.

Good luck selling.

This car was absoultely mint 18 months ago when I moved away and was easily worth 2000 pounds, the reg is CPC789Y I think a lot of people on here know it it used to be Gareths car and it was known how well he looked after it. I carried looking after it just aswell and was slowly trying to put it back to original condition. As I say it was mint apart from the rear panel and the small dent in the bonnet. As I left the country it has been left standing and the MOT and Tax ran out, I was aplnning to come back to the UK so we kept the car and then sent it for a new MOT. It failed around the same time as I decided to stay in Sweden so we didn't get it put back on the road. It was started and left running every week up till around 6 months ago. The interior is very good nick apart from the usual wear on teh drivers seat and the roof lining is a bit rough around where the aerial went in. 400 pounds at a garage will see this car back up to condition I left it in and if you are a bit handy yourself you'll be able to get it done for less, the only unknown here is how 6 months left unstarted will have left it. If you search under username RichyRich you will see photo's I posted and also be able to see work done on the car. We will post pics of how the car used to look and how it looks today and you will see that cosmetically there is very litlle difference and this is a very nice car. At the end of the day if nobody is interested then we will just keep the car and perhaps one day when I come back will put it on the road. It seems a shame that a very straight nearly original car with full service history up till December 2006 and onl 125000 miles would not go to an enthusiast who will love it and continue the restoration as I did. I do not feel the car is over priced as liek I said 400 pounds spent on it will make it easily a 2000 pound car. Any questions please feel free to e-mail Laura who originaly posted this for sale and who is not known for her skills as a sales woman…. This car is definately not an old wreck that has just been dumped on a drive for a year. (Posted by RichyRich)

Link HERE to the post with pics for anyone interested

does look like a nice clean example to me, would definately recommend getting an MOT on it then I cant' see why it wouldn't fetch ?1.3k

it's always difficult judging by pictures though, and prices are so varied for mk1's, especially without an MOT

Good luck with the sale though, I would say that if anyone's considering this one to go and have a look around it yourself   parts to get it MOT'd wouldn't be much at all if you can do the work yourself

just my opinion anyway

If it is a ?2k car and only needs ?400 spending on it, then why not spend the ?400 and then ask 2k for it, with a full mot and looking sweet????
Plus making an additional ?300 whilst at it..

If it still looks like it does in the pics, then maybe worth what your asking, but without an mot most people wont come look for that money

Nice pics, although i do think that they confirm that the car is overpriced. The interior needs a lot of work to be correct, plus the welding required and inevitable cosmetic touch ups. Good luck with the sale but i think there is better out there for similair money.
