Black GTI for sale!

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=320178782305&ssPageName=ADME:L:LCA:GB:1123

Hi,

I bought this car for ?1000 from a college at the bus garage I work at on the 3rd June this year. He is a 65 yr old man who had owned the car since 7th Oct 1986! I?ve worked with him for about 8yrs and always had my eye on his car as he took such great care of it. When he said he was thinking of selling it I nearly bit his arm off! 65,000 miles and all the cylinders gave over 12bar of compression! (Like a brand new engine!) He used to poodle everywhere at about 30mph tops!
After a few days of driving it I noticed that the 65,000 miles are not accurate, as the miles don?t actually increase. I spoke to him about it and he genuinely had no idea. I?ve known him for years so do trust the guy. Judging by wear on the seat, steering wheel, gear knob etc I?d say the mileage was closer to 80,000. The Speedo, rev counter, temp gauge and fuel gauge all work fine though.

I haven?t driven the Golf since August. I am only selling it because, being 6?9? tall, the (factory steel) sunroof in this car was annoying me. It kept bashing me on the back of the head! I had a MK1 GTI before (check my feedback) but it didn?t have a sunroof so the headroom was fine. But on the test drive for this one, I didn?t notice the sunroof would get in the way. It was only after driving it every morning to work for a month or so that it started to annoy me! The car is Taxed until April NEXT YEAR, but the MOT ran out on the 16th Oct this year. The only reason I haven?t re-mot?d it is because I?ve been driving my new car for the last 3 months (vectra! Much more head room!). I?m sure it should go straight though the mot. All the tyres are very very legal, all the lights work, the wipers, rear wiper, rear demister, horn, front demister fan, indicators etc etc all work.

He had it re-sprayed about 2 years ago, but as a couple of the photos show, it was a really poor effort. Hardly any, if any at all, prep work was done, hence the flaking of the painted bumpers. The window rubbers were also painted?! There is some bubbling of the paint around parts of the windows and sunroof too. The car looks great from a little distance, but up close you really notice the poor paint job. There are a couple of dents, one on the drivers? door, just bellow the window. One on the bonnet, near the front edge and one on the drivers? side front wing, near the headlight, but none of them really stand out unless you know they are there.

I don?t know 100% when the cam belt was last changed. Walter, the guy I bought it from, said it was done about 2 years ago. But after his mileage knowledge, who knows eh?! I can?t find a receipt for it in the big big pile of receipts. There are receipts for things like an exhaust, and new fuse box, relays and other stuff.

There is all the original manuals etc, the service book is up to stamp 11 which was on 9th Aug 1995 ? Mileage 63,000
There is even the original bill of sale from 1st Aug 1981!!

The only Modifications done to it are the Brembo front discs and pagid pads I took from my last golf (only covered 2,000 miles or so) and the chrome window winders.
It has the Original Radio/Cassette and the original wheels. I?m pretty sure all the windows are the original vw/audi stamped ones too? The boot, interior and engine bay are all very tidy!  It also has a Toad alarm that was professionally fitted.

It has been a very loved car. The only reason it was sold to me was because Walter has diabetes and has been told by his doctor to walk more. He knew I?d look after it after seeing me trying to restore my last one but was nearly in tears the day I bought it. Well, maybe not tears, but he was very sad! 21 years of ownership. I?m just sorry I?m too tall as it is a beautiful original example of a MK1 GTI.

If  there are any other things you would like to know or any other pictures you would like to see, please contact me via ebay, e-mail me via bigliamf@hotmail.com or ring me on 07904 332063. I am around most afternoons and evenings this week for viewings.
