1989/F Mk1 Black Karmann Clipper Convertable, it is the 1.8 litre non GTi version. I bought the car in June and have spent a fair amount on it. I've just had the Weber Carburettor re-jetted and serviced by a well known company in Brighton, this came to just under ?100.

The car has only got just over 98000 miles on the clocks, which is low for a car of this age. The car is MOT'd until April 2008 and has Tax until end of July 2008, which i paid ?180 for shortly after buying it. This Golf is a rare model, being an Automatic with Power Assisted Steering, which together make the driving easy and smooth, the PAS really helps as from previous experiences with golfs/jettas they suffer from heavy steering, something this has no problems with!
I replaced the original 14" BBS's with the 15? BBS RAs off a Corrado, which are VW and BBS stamped (not copies). The 185/55/15 tyres all have loads of tread on them and the wheels themselves have very little rashing around the rim. These wheels are worth good money within the VW scene as they are perfect for anyone going for the OEM look.

The original steering wheel has been replaced with a Wolfsburg 3 Spoke Wheel. The standard exhaust has been changed to a Stainless Steel Twinpipe Backbox, this gives off a nice burble on tickover, but is a bit loud when driving, i still have the old exhaust which i may fit before sale. Styling wise i also bought a Black Tonneau Hood cover for when the roof is down and Clear Front Indicators and a JOM Debadged Grille, but have now refitted the Standard Clipper Grille as i think it looks better.

I bought the clipper with a cutting out problem, the previous owners replaced nearly all the fuelling system ie tank/filler/filters/pump, also coil pack, leads, coil management unit, distributor. Some of the original parts are still in the boot as he couldn't find the problem but chased it around never the less. Therefore these parts should all be 100% working as spares. As soon as I bought the car I replaced the Spark Plugs, then had the Weber carburettor serviced and bought a spare Pierburg 2e2 carburettor just in case the Weber was the problem. I then found the problem to be a stupidly simple problem! The Fuel Sender Unit has 16 pick-up holes, 12 of these were blocked up, so we unblocked them, made sure there was no debri in the tank and it hasn't shown one sign of cutting out in the 1000 miles since! So it now runs perfect.

The paintwork is good all round, there?s only one area that could do with a bit of a touchup is the drivers side front wing, nothing major but it's a 18 year old car so it?s never going to be completely perfect. There are some light marks on the bumpers and the inner hood lining is a bit tatty but that?s about it. We have been to many VW enthusiast meets since June and have always been complimented on what a clean example this car is. Being black with chrome trim when it's cleaned it does look very smart, and we always get people admiring it as they're not a car you see everyday!

If you want an original and clean looking car that will only increase in value as it is becoming a classic, this is for you. The Power Steering makes it so easy to drive, no heavy steering (as per most Golf Mk1?s) here!

EDIT: comes with Panasonic mp3 compatible headunit and magnat 6x9s in parcel shelf, not awesome but it does give out a good sound!

Interior looks a bit wet where my dad decided to spray the car with the top down, nice.
