'83-Y Driver 1.3. Must go soon, bargain clean car! ?750 ono

Hi everyone.

It pains me to write this, and especially so soon after purchasing my first Mark One - I've wanted one for ages - but I just don't need a car in London. Paying London insurance and a steep parking permit, tax and an approaching MoT on a car which gets washed and tinkered with once a week and hardly driven (and then just in one way systems in first gear…  :( ) I just can't justify, so someone is in luck!

She is an 1983 Y plate white 1.3 Driver with 168k on the clock and with no sunroof. I have (I think) every MoT from new and huge wads of bills, oh, and I am the eighth owner.

Recently, she has had the following (either by me or the previous owner Sean):

New distributor,
Brake discs and pads,
1 new rear drum and shoes,
a new custom fabricated exhaust heat sheild,
a new rubber carb mount,
2 rear 4x6 JBL speakers in the parcel shelf sides,
new clutch cable,
new tappet cover gasket,
new radiator,
new radiator cap,
new alternator,
new headlight switch (includes dimmer for backlight on dash - very bright now - a common mk1 fault)
brand new springs and dampers all round - standard GSF ones,
new petrol filler cap,
new crosshair headlamps with 100W bulbs,
new HT leads,
new oil filter and oil change and gearbox oil change,
and it comes with a JVC CD player which runs the speakers in the doors and the parcel shelf JBLs too.

The car / shell would be ideal for a project as the shell is in such good nick, or could be driven as is. I found a Cabby 1.8i engine and gearbox I was going to put in, but didn't go ahead with it as time / funds were tight.

The only rusty bits are tiny spots in front of the rear arches, a bit where the rear valance joins the drivers side rear wing and a badly fitted replacement front valance, which are cheaply available and if I was keeping it, I would have done - etch primered and blown over in white to match. Structuraly it is very sound.

The MoT is until July 10th this year, so has a bit to go, and the tax is until the end of June I believe - Cheap tax… 1.3 and all…  :D

SO, thats all good.

OK, the bad bits.

o The fan temp sensor doesn't work, so the chap before me installed a switch for the fan which I've used since I've had the car (never been a problem - just have to remember).

o The tyres on the 7 spoke alloys need doing soon. One is distinctly bad. But hey, if you were going to time this with a wheel-swap anyway, Bonus! I've been running the car on 15" BBS RAs (which I re-shod) which I also have for sale - get in touch.

o The drivers seat has seen better days.

o The temperature gauge sender is (I think) from the wrong era, thus running a little high. BUT worry not, the car holds water very well, said water is clean and not oily and the gauge is 'consistently' high. The car doesn't boil over, but you do have to switch the fan in.

So here ends my essay. Please get in touch if you are interested. I'm in North Islington, London, and should be around in the daytime Satuday and Sunday this weekend if you want to have a look, and can be about from 7pm (lovely long summer evenings…) next week.
