VW Golf GTi Cabriolet - 1.8 Injection

1983 (A Reg), 74750 Miles

5 Owners, Purchased in August 2005 by myself.

MOT Expires in July 2011, Currently SORN'd so No Tax.

VW Golf GTi cabriolet in white, white alloy wheels and a new blue vinyl roof.   Being an 1983 model it has the small bumpers with wheel arch extensions.  Unfortunately the NSF one is missing but it took me 3 years to even notice it.

The interior is white leather/vinyl with blue cloth insets and is amazing condition for the age of the car.  Only 1 mark of note, as pictured.  The MFD computer works perfectly, as does the MPG gauge.  The stereo has been swapped for a basic Sony unit as I wanted something that wouldn't attract the baddies.

The engine has been recently spruced up, and runs like a dream with a new fuel accumulator, radiator, battery and cam belt.  The exhaust and fuel pump were replaced in 2007, and I replaced the brakes in 2006.  The rocker cover, cam belt cover and radiator shroud have also been re-painted.  Fresh oil and antifreeze complete the work.  I drove it to the MOT centre and this thing does shift and handle, it's a proper driver's car.

All tyres are good with at least 5mm of tread, and 2 were recently re-sealed due to leakage around the clip on weights.  These have been replaced now.

New roof fitted yesterday, with all new cables. The rear cable needs further adjustment.

The bodywork is straight, with no sign of accident damage.  There are a few marks and blemishes as you'd expect on a 27 year old car.  These are mainly rust bubbles on the drivers door and tailgate, and there is a hole for the radio aerial on the NSF wing.  The car has had a respray at some point, which is flaking in some areas, and oversprayed in others but it does polish up nicely.

I have some spares for the car, being a towbar, lowered struts for front and rear suspension, and also some rover 15" alloys wheels which can be included within price.  The last picture shows the Rover alloy wheels fitted.  I've wanted my Golf to sit on these ever since I saw a Mk1 gti in Cornwall on them, for me they suit the car perfectly.

Milage was 68918 when I bought it in 2005 for £1500.

The car was used for a few summers (dry stored in garage over winters) until 2008 when it was mothballed due the arrival of my son, where it stayed until this summer when I got the car running again.  it flew through an MOT with minor advisories (oil sump leak and slight exhaust blow)

I have a folder full of history for the vehicle, which can confirm the mileage is genuine back to the mid 90s.

All in all, a nice, clean, genuine early golf cabrio with low mileage that's good to go for another 23 years.  If we didn't have the kids, this would be my daily driver.

Viewing is recommended.  The car is located nr Monmouth, South Wales currently.
