 Description:

Originally sold on the 2nd October 1979 from West Sussex Motors in Worthing this very early RHD 1.6 4-Speed GTI is one of the most solid and original series 1 GTIs I have seen.

There is not many series 1 GTIs left on the road let alone in such original condition.

The car has all of the early features - small back lights, early twin dial dash and 3 spoke steering wheel,  screw in non locking fuel filler cap (filler neck is solid and rust free) orginal tartan seats and shag pile carpets, very good headlining (just 1 minor tear near the boot lid, original early alloys.

Comes with much history including the original service book and original Blaupunkt radio  / cassette player.

The original engine died back in Nov 09 when it threw a rod on my way home from work, I have since replaced the engine with another 1.6 EG Series engine from a slightly later car, this engine has done around 80K, has good compression on all cylinders and runs well. All the early ancillaries from the original engine have been re-fitted.

 Much work recently done:

Full service, inc replacement of many parts, (receipts with the history)
New Clutch
New battery (last month)
New exhaust middle section
New Intake / exhaust gaskets
4 new tyres
Full front wheel alignment carried out professionally
16v 22mm master cylinder and servo brake upgrade using new cyclinder and very good used servo
New front disks and pads
New rear shocks / springs

 Bad points:

The front wings have some rust on the lower edges and will need replacement at some point,  small patch of lacquer peel on the roof and some slight bubbling on the A posts near the windscreen. typical wear on the drivers seat bolster but a later mk2 upper seat is fitted which will allow the original back to be repaired at your leisure.
