Wolfsburg Steering Wheel

Post

Morning guys,

I am after a bit of help with my recent purchase a Wolfsburg steering wheel. Overall it's in really good nick but being completely new to these wheels I am a bit confused about the centre. It seems to come away from the wheel very easily. Looking at it I think it should be held in place by 4 plastic clips which appear to have come off. Also what about the horn??

Any advice on how I can repair this please.

Cheers

Mines the same dude, it should have 4 clips like you say, Mine has got two of the clips, and the other two have got screws in which kind of hook into the holes on the steering wheel and hold it in place.

Its a bit rubbish but I think its pretty common on these wheels. I can't help you with the horn as mine is on a button on the dash.

The horn should work as the copper ont the centre and the brass on the wheel contact each other and te wire goes to the wheel part. If needs be il strip mine later for pics if you like its in the kitchen

If you could Brad just to give me an idea of what a complete one should look like to compare it to so I can work out what needs doing.

Cheers.

Yes, your clips are broken. They break easily when numpties pull off the horn centre. Each clip should also have a spring on the outside of it for the horn switch action.

I don't suppose these can be bought from VW now can they?

you are also missing the copper ring off the rear of the wheel

to make contact for the horn to work

Again I'm guessing these have long since been deleted by VW and can't be got JB?

Paid £60 for it. The actual wheel is in good nick. Looking at it again I think there is a copper ring around the middle? Have a close look.

Right, looks like your missing the copper ring from the under side of the wheel

And looks like you have the one on the top, but not the clips like so,
if you haven't got that copper but you can get to back to make something to suit the job? Bit off fabbing
By removing the plastic cover like so,

But you can't do anything with the clips I'm afraid.

buy another, you might be able to use a copper ring off your old wheel as they should all be the same diameter

Might have to be mate. Or just stick with the cack one I have at the moment and put this one in the shed for another year. I'll take it up to JonP next time I am working on the car and see if anything can be done to it  :(
