WIRING CONNECTORS?

Hi, I need help regarding wiring connectors.

I've got a MK1 Golf GTI 1600 on a Y plate, and I'm currently replacing some of the loom and the fuse box.

An original fuse box I have, but I don't have the connectors to attach the wires to it.

I need five connectors and I believe they are all 24pin/socket configuration.

Does anyone know where I can get them from?

Cheers,

Shonky.

Try VW as they did release all connectors separately. Otherwise your only chance is secondhand off another loom.

After a few myself for my 1600 GTI. Worked are they 2 x 19 pin, 1 x 20 pin and 2 x 22 pin.

They are…

Block A (White - 19 pin) 171 971 971E
Block C (Grey - 19 pin) 171 971 971C
Block D (Blue - 22 pin) 171 971 971B
Block E (Black - 22 pin) 171 971 971A
Block F (Yellow - 20 pin) 171 971 971

Have only tried Euro Car Parts so fare - they don't do them.

The VW dealers around me seem to condradict themselves over whether VW still stock them or not!

Crazyquiff, I'd be interested in some used ones at the right price if you can guarantee they're in good working order.

Please let me know.

You can contact me via email on alexandertowne@hotmail.com

Thanks again.

i ordered the yellow light connectors last month so they do that one for sure…. u need the pins too, my dealer gave me pins with wires on the end so i can connect the new wires onto the old ones to eliminate the corroded part of the wiring which was closest to the pins…

does that make sense…

Yeah I see what you mean.

I've got some second hand ones off crazyquiff in GWO, with some of the old wires still connected, so I believe I can solder my loom to the old wires on these connectors.

Just got a second hand fusebox from ebay too, in GWO (my original was fried when I bought it!) so hopefuly i'll be back on the road soon!

Sounds like usual VW dealer failure  . The dealer I use seems to know their stuff and he didn't blink an eyelid when I quoted those numbers, just gave the price and said they would be in Wednesday morning. Unbelieviable how useless some dealers are.

G6ORGE, Did the little metal connector inserts in the block come with the block, were they fitted to the block?

Ok guys, I need help:

Still trying to get connectors for this fusebox, but I'm unable to work out what the fusebox is. I don't think its from a MKI, so could the previous owner have retro fitted a MKII unit?

I'd enclose photos but I'm not sure how to do it on this forum?

Part numbers I found are:

896151 SHO
896161
171941821B,C
171941813B,C
811941813A

It also has 15th Nov 1989 stamped on it.

Cheers,
Shonky

That's an early fuse box and, looking at ETKA, seems like it was changed during '82 so you have a Series 2 car with the early fuse box!

The 82-83 cars have both fuse boxes listed, the later being 171 941 821 D

I have a number of later fuse boxes if you ned one.

no u have to order them seperately about a quid each.. u have to know the thickness of the wire though so u know how many of each thickness u need!

I've talked to my mate who's gonna wire it, and he says that even though the fusebox is old it does match the loom, so it's perhaps best to keep the loom common to the fusebox.

Plus i've just got a mint fusebox to go in!

Which means, I'm back on the hunt for the original connectors! Great!

Think they changed it in 1982. Mines an early series 2 (1981) with the earlier fusebox, also seen two X reg series 2 CLs with the earlier fusebox.

Sounds fun  . Managed to get a numebr of wires out with metal connectors undamaged. Suppose wiring diagrams will display the gauges of the wires running to the connectors? Sure seen the metal connectors in electronics shops.
