Windscreen Question.

Does anybody know how much they are new direct from VW?
I have a 83 GTI, should I go for the clear or green tint one?

Is the rest of your glass clear or tinted :dontknow: Get the one that matches the rest!

As for getting one direct from VW, I'd imagine they would be expensive. It might be better to get one through autoglass etc. After all it can't be inferior in quality to original VW equipment as it's a windscreen, so the only difference will be the manufacturer logo.

go for a smaller independant windscreen company... i was quoted on average 80 pounds fitted for a new screen

Yeah defo go for a smaller company, autoglass quoted me £191! I got a screen from a local guy for £60!

same here auto windscreens and auto glass both wanted a ouple of hundred quid, local guy did it for £70 fitted

did you have the green tinted glass fitted for that price?

just plain but green was the same price

Got mine from VW about 6 months back paid £60 they only had three or four left then obsolete.Pays to pop to your local dealers sometimes!!!!

Thats good advice across the board. Many people presume parts are obsolete at the main dealer when in fact they are not. A helpful parts bod will unearth some gems on ETKA.

i got mine direct from vw. cost me 75 quid. fitted myself, just need a long piece of small rope. and some wd40.

Very posh! I've seen a heated screen for sale in the past few days (perhaps on E38?) and was tempted!

I had mine replaced just yesterday as it cracked up the passenger side last week when there was a hard frost.

I checked prices at the dealership (JCT600 Wakefield VW) and it was £87 less vat for a new green tinted screen.

In the end I had it replaced through my Footman James policy for the £50 excess, I couldn't justify/stretch to an extra £50ish spend for the VW logo.

I got one from VW a week ago for £95 including vat was a pilkington one so probably available anywhere although I was just being impatient and needed it quick :-) the rubber was obsolete apparently :-( must admit I always ring vw if I am after parts as sometimes it is cheaper or comparable to gsf /breakers and is OEM stuff :-)
