Wheels
I have a 1990 Mk1 Cabriolet and want to put some original wheels on it - it currently has 15" alloys on it which makes it drive like a tank. Am I right in thinking the original wheels would be 9 spokes - and where would I get a set?

15" wheels shouldn't make steering overly heavy. You might have other problems like warn suspension top mounts or incorrectly adjusted camber/tracking.
Are your tyres quite warn? This seems to have an effect on steering heavyness. If they are warn unevenly on one side of the tyre then the camber/tracking is almost definately out.
Here is a very nice set of avus alloys…

I think the centers are colour coordinated to your car if its paprika red, helious blue, or white but other colours of car have black centers. Anyone confirm?

The centre caps are just black plastic, the colour coding is of the inner spokes and inner rim (see pic of the original ones on my Helios Blue GTi Cab).

if your wantint to put your clipper back to how it was when it came out of the factory as i am then i'm afraid their is no way of finding out what wheels it had when it was new unless you have the original receipt. however, i have a copy of the brosure for the 1991 clipper and it did have steel wheels as standard (with what they call 'sporty' wheel trims???) but as an optional extra you could have Avus or BBS alloys
mmmmmmmm.. BBS alloyyyysssssssss

Thats what I meant ops:
The black plastic centres can be had from VW, they don't cost much at all either. They fit ye olde 8 spokes too.

I will have a set of the clipper steelies spare, along with the trims, (once I have fitted my scala wheels grabbed off ebay!).
If you are interested give me a shout. They have 2 newish tyres and 2 OK ones.
