what silver?

my 81 gti is silver but how can i find out what silver to get a paint match? were the mk1s diamond silver? or do i need a paint code? if so,  where would i find it?

In the boot big white sticker - should start with L -I think.

look inside the bonet on the cross member above ya head lights there should b a metal plate with some codes its on there or go to a paint supplier and ask for a colour match   easy
