What are these wires for

Hi All
query….as you look into the car from tailgate….bottom left hand corner, right near the back of the rear lights on the boot floor pan, you have the wires from the loom (I take it), there is a small circle indented in the floor pan with a flat piece going across….attached to the 'flat piece' there are two wires (brown I think)…….cud anyone tell me what the wires are for and is there any significance in the indent….the reason I am asking is that there is a bit of rust that needs doing and maybe a little welding!! tks

thast the earth(brown is almost always earth on vw) for your rear lights  remove them no rear light washer etc

could always move the earth

yep tis the earthing point for the rear lights.

heated rear window is under headlining(earth)

you could always move them with a big ring crimp to the bumper bolt as long as you clean aickle bit of paint for a good earth
